Could Colorado Be Changing The Focus of Their Offensive Scheme?

According to this article, Colorado is being secretive about "changes" to their offense this week. The coaches won't say what those changes are, but say they will continue to rotate the QB position between Tyler Hansen and Cody Hawkins when they play A&M.

Buff offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich on the changes:

"Just things that we haven't done as much of or differently," Helfrich said. "There are certain things that we've got to be able to do, and there are certain things that we absolutely cannot do based on who we are.

"We've got to kind of tend toward those things that we're better at and live with the fact that we're not the complete package right now. And that's okay."

The paranoid part of me wonders if they've seen our run defense, and are planning to go to a split-backs attack with Stewart and Scott and hammer us with the run. Hell, if I were an opposing coach, and saw our run defense, I'd make sure we ran it 40 times a game when playing us. We haven't shown the ability to stop it, and it would keep our offense off the field, limiting our scoring opportunities. A change from their pass-first spread scheme to a power running scheme would certainly explain the secrecy from their coaching staff.

I'd really prefer that CU continue to try to run the spread, and continue doing those things which have limited their offense the last few weeks. Our defense would certainly be grateful.

Colorado's offensive line has been banged up similar to ours, although they have lost some players for the whole season. The condition of their line is the one thing that makes me hope they might not be able to run the ball against us.

As it is, CU kind of has a bugaboo on us (Anyone else remember 2000, when a winless Colorado came to Kyle and upset us?), and I think we're in for a dogfight. I'm hoping their offense struggles, we get a turnover or two, we can stop their offense two or three times, and we're able to score 3 quick TDs so we can play ahead for most of the game. Reality is, their defense has some speed, something Iowa State lacked (something we lack on defense, too), and I think they'll be ready for us after being embarrassed last weekend against Missouri.

CU owns us like we used to own KSU. Preseason, I had this one down as a possible loss. I am just hoping they have 7 turnovers or something.
