Two Years Have Passed, And They're Still Crying
This article made me laugh and cringe at the same time. How can texas fans continue to be so pathetic? They're still angry about the Michael Bennett hit? Worse yet, they've sent him emails about it.
"They sent me dirty e-mails then," said Bennett, the Aggies' senior defensive end. "They still send me dirty e-mails saying, 'Don't hit Colt this year.' "
While I think it is pathetic to send any college athlete emails about their performance on the field, unless it is to encourage them when they are experiencing adversity, to continually harass a player about a perfectly legal hit is ridiculous.
Worse yet, the conference officials have gotten into the act.
But the following summer at Big 12 football media days, Walt Anderson, the league's coordinator of football officials, included the play in a videotaped segment of penalties that were missed.
Sorry, Walt, but this wasn't a late hit or a penalty that should have been called:
Michael Bennett's hit on Colt McCoy
Bennett clearly was in the process of hitting McCoy when McCoy released the ball. The play wasn't flagged, as it shouldn't have been, because it was a clean hit.
The other issue I have with that article is the assertion that the '06 win somehow wasn't legitimate. The hell it wasn't, we stomped them into the ground that day. We physically dominated texas, attested to by the 16 play drive A&M had in the 4th quarter for the winning score. texas fans just need to accept the fact that they lost the day because A&M was the better team and wanted it more, and that is all there was to it.

Man
That was a wicked shot. Clean hit to me. Shoulder, not helmet, caught him.

Kellen Heard
When I first heard about this I thought it was about the cheapshot that Kellen Heard did not Benett’s hit which was perfectly legit. I think they might have gotten Heard and Bennett mixed up. That be the only legit reason for them sending him emails. Otherwise its just sour grapes by them.

What
I love how hypocritical you guys can be. When Matt Leinart said they “we were the better team” which, quite frankly, they were you guys on BON and others were bitching about it and saying scoreboard. Don’t be a hypocrite. You guys got your asses handed to you the last two years. Scoreboard pal. Pete Carroll punts the ball the game is over, but thats irrelevant.
Also you shouldn’t say on your profile that you live with your parents or wish you were a longhorn. You ain’t, you are a Comet pal.

wishiwasalonghorn is being self-deprecating in his profile
and saying his wishes he was a longhorn when he went to one of the system schools makes perfect sense, because, as you pointed out, he would be a Comet
He is also one of the most diehard texas fans I know, and a rational one, to boot.

MR.PRIME TIME
ok, where to begin…….its funny to me how this has some how related back to the Rose Bowl, but none the less, here we go. 1. your argument is lacking based on one simple principal….. THEIR RECORDS PAL!!!!!!!! was Stanford a better team than USC last year?….HELL NO!!!!! did they beat them?? yes…..that’s football, any given Saturday. the reason Leinert’s statement can and is scrutinized is because they were both undefeated!! both had proven, with an impressive body of works, that they were both legitimate title contenders. If a&m had done anything any remotely close to resembling a good season in either of those years than I would agree with you. In both years, a&m’s marquee win was over Texas, they had nothing else …. 2. I would really appreciate honesty on this one. ….so by your simple "scoreboard pal" logic…..were the 2004 Baylor bears truly a better team than a&m? I don’t think so. Their record certainly doesn’t reflect it. But they did manage the upset……but oh yea "scoreboard pal" 3. Lastly, what part of wish I was a longhorn do you not get? Am I a comet? Yes! Do I WISH I WAS A LONGHORN? YES!….. so your saying that I shouldn’t put that I wish I was a longhorn because I am a comet when i admit that i am a comet but wish i was a longhorn? Gotcha PRIME TIME! Give my best to Mrs. Sanders

Fine you got me, congratulations we were the better team on that day. We may have not been the better team through out the season but we were the better team on that day.

well..... a&m may have been better last year
and yes, a&m kicked our ass both years….there’s no objection here to that….. to be honest I think Texas was actually a bad team last year, just a few plays away from a lot more losses((Nebraska and osu) so I may even go so far as to say the 07 ags were better, but not 06

i actually agree with you
I think a&m has grossly underachieved this entire decade…. example, justin warren. should have been all American but was average at best. I was extremely disappointed in his career. Not that he was bad by any means but he could have been great. that’s the story of aggie football this decade. great potential….potential that has been wasted. and thanks for the kind words….. also, just broke my phone(long story) so may be Monday till I get a new one

and it was a clean shot
I hate to admit it but that was a perfectly legal shot. I’m not one of these longhorn fans who claim other wise…..but then again I did spent 3 years watching killebrew’s shots. Maybe bennett’s was only clean by comparison.

There is a reason its called an upset!!!!!!!!!
It was only called an upset because Dennis Franchione was the head coach. Any time Fran beat a ranked team, it was a shock, hence the “upset” moniker. But we all know, really, that A&M was the better team.
texas has had no answer for the football ninja that is Stephen McGee.

I'm a Texas fan, and I'm over that game...
Since that game, Texas has won 2 bowl games, knocked off #1 Oklahoma at the RRS, guaranteed a spot for their junior QB to be in NY for the Heisman ceremony, been #1 in the rankings for three weeks, put themselves in position for, at the very least, a Fiesta Bowl birth, solidified their coaching staff by hiring Major Applewhite and Will Muschamp, been in 4-5 “Gameday” games, and put several more players into the NFL.
That game feels like ages ago.
Since the 2006 game, A&M has accomplished one thing: they beat Texas in 2007. Also of note, they lost to Arkansas State, fired their coach, lost to Baylor by 21, haven’t sniffed the rankings, been humiliated by Miami (twice), benched their 4 year starting QB, been a regular on the ESPN Bottom 10, only made headlines when their ex-Coach sold player injury information to boosters for a monthly fee, and finished last in the Big 12 South.
A&M beat Texas twice in a row. Get as much mileage out of those wins as you possibly can this week, because after Thursday A&M won’t have anything to be happy about.

that is amusing
I just checked the scorebook
and the scores from the last two A&M-texas games still read 38-30 and 12-7
the results of the 2008 A&M-Baylor game didn’t change history, imagine that.
Maybe you need to find something else to try to talk about?

the hit
It was definitely a hit that could have been called a penalty. Bennet lead with his helmet and planted it on McCoy’s chin. I wouldn’t have a moral crisis if one of our players made a hit like that but I wouldn’t bitch if it was called a penalty either. The leagues are making it a point to protect the quarterbacks and hits like that are something they want to discourage. Like it or not, that’s how it is.
The hit by Heard was indefensibly stupid. I’ve seldom seen such idiotic play.
It will feel good to smash A&M this year and initiate another 6 years or so of complete domination.

I agree that college officials need to do a better job of policing the practice of spearing, which not enough of them call, but this was a clean hit.

other than that he clearly lands his helmet on Colt’s chin. That’s what re-aggravated the stinger.
