Aggie Soccer Defeats Florida, 2-1
The Lady Ags beat the Florida Gators, 2-1 in Gainesville this afternoon. Aggie goalie Kelly Dyer allowed one goal while making four saves. The Aggies goals were scored by senior Laura Robinson at the 39:12 mark of the first half, and 46 seconds later by freshman Jennifer Kmezich.
The Aggie defense held tight in the second half, keeping the Gators from scoring. Both teams were held without a goal in the second half.
I don't think I can say enough about this team, which is doing so well despite their youth. We started 6 underclassmen against Florida, 3 sophomores and 3 freshmen. In addition, all of our reserves were freshmen, and the game winner was scored by Kmezich, a freshmen.
This puts us into the Elite Eight of the NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament. We will play North Carolina, 3-0 winners over Illinois in the third round, and 3-2 winners over A&M back on August 28 in College Station. The winner of this game advances to the women's soccer Final Four, the College Cup, which will be held in Cary, NC this year.
