Thanksgiving Day
Well i've noticed that most Aggie fans aren't as excited about this years matchup. I haven't heard many non-sarcastic "Keep the streak alive!" chants breaking out among the Aggie faithful. Perhaps because Texas is #2 in the BCS and on it's way to a possible/probable Big 12 Championship and National Title game apperance.
I believe that UT will win. Perhaps because A&M has looked SO bad recently. When I attended the Army game, a Baylor friend of mine leaned over and said, "If you plan on playing this bad against Baylor, don't expect to win." But I of course said, "Oh, well we'll get better." Unfortunately this never really came to be. There just simply isn't a lot of hope for this team on Thursday.
Every mediocre or worse team deserves an upset. USC loses to Stanford, West Virginia loses a week out of it's BCS title game bid. You eventually will lose to a much worse team. And every bad team will eventually upset a big team. (it just might take a while) I believe after the Arkansas St. lose when everyones expectations were put into perspective, and predictions began to fly, everyone expected a bad season with perhaps an upset win over a ranked team thrown in. Now, we're down to one game. Does this team have an upset win in them at all? They played upset qualitiy football aganst Tech for a half but have played no good since then in upset situations. Even against Baylor a qualitiy team could not be put on the field.
The past two years A&M has played exceptionally well against UT. You could even argue that three years ago we played well but didn't come through. We always play this game like a rivalry game is supposed to be played, with our hearts full. Last year, as Frangate rumbled in the minds of all those in attendance, the players stepped it up and ignored the distractions. Can they do the same this year? Can they forget that they're not playing for a bowl and simply play to win? Last year it seemed overall that Fran finally let the players have fun.
Now I'm not predicting a win, in fact I'm predicting somewhat of a blowout. But, is it possible that this team has it in them to beat Texas one more year? It would save Shermans first season. It would save the legacy of the seniors. It would promote the future and of course it would help recruiting. Two years ago when we rolled into Austin, no one gave us a chance, now no one is giving us a prayer. I'm not hoping that UT overlooks this game, I'm hoping that our players have this game quadruple circled. This will be our biggest game of the year. It will be on national television. It is against our rival who is #2 in the country. And, we've upset them the past 2 years. If there was ever a time to make a statement and play your hearts out, this is it.
Play hard.

I don't see it either.
I really don’t see it. The thing about the last two years was we weren’t as bad as our record said. In 2006 we lost several games that we should have won. We should have beaten Tech that year, collapsed against Nebraska and had ridiculous coaching decisions against OU. We win those three games and we come in to that game undefeated. Also that Texas team was not as good people thought they were. Last year was probably Mack’s Brown worst team since ’98 or ’99 as they were terrible. They had no offensive line, no defense whatsoever and in general benefited from a weak Big 12. But its a credit to their coaching staff and the resiliency of the team that they ended up winning 10 games. I think the coaches just had a the hell with it mentality and pulled out all the stops since they knew they were going to be fired.
As this year we really have no chance unless Texas just decides to not show up. I think our players will play hard, but the talent gap is too far. The last two years the talent gap was not that great as this year. Also, Texas, the last two years, were really caught off guard by us as they didn’t take us seriously and had nothing to play fo. They will have everything to play for and revenge on their minds. Its going to get ugly, I hope it won’t but I really don’t see how we can win this game. Colt McCoy would have throw like 10 picks to win the game.

sorry
but this is freaking BS.

Talent gap? You know where the talent gap was? texas DL versus our OL. We were more talented, and dominated the front lines two seasons in a row. You know where the gap was? texas’ secondary and LBs against our receivers. texas’ LBs vs Mike Goodson and Jorvorskie Lane. That was the talent gap. We had more talent on offense across the board than texas did on defense, AND we had a QB who always played his ass off against texas. We won the last two games b/c we were simply better than texas.
As for texas not taking us seriously or not having anything to play for, what are you smoking? The last two seasons, the A&M-texas game decided whether or not texas won the Big 12 South and had a shot at winning the Big 12 title, and we knocked them out of the conference championship game both times.
You’ve been listening to the crap being spewed from Austin for too long.

Put your reply in again, without all of the profanity. We’re Aggies, we’re intelligent enough to not resort to four-letter words every other word to try to make a point.

The talent gap excuse is BS. You do not win two games in a row over a more talented team. Especially in the fashion we did last year. Last year’s tu team was a 7 win team masquerading as a 9 win team. They had the worst pass defense I had seen since the WAC was in its heyday. They just got a couple of long Jamaal Charles runs to bail them out.
In order to win this game, we would need our OL to show up like they have not shown up all year. We would need to limit turnovers, and have Kellen Heard play his typical tu game. We need the defense to force some turnovers. It is possible but unlikely. I am hoping for the upset.

If Kellen Heard plays his typical UT game, he'll probably be ejected by halftime.
With an assault charge to follow shortly thereafter.

only b/c it is in Austin
the way the refs protect McCoy is a joke

But a in more level headed response
No, the talent gap wasn’t terribly wide between the two teams in 2006, and almost nonexistent in 2007.
You were just coached by Fran, who had the players in a stupor until something they really cared about came along – UT.

We wont beat them....
but it wont be a blowout either….UT has every reason to wipe the floor with A&M, but I suspect we wont be laying down and taking it. The first quarter is key IMO, as with any road game. Dont let the crowd get into it, and dont let them run up the score on you.
I feel we may just end up seeing A&M’s best game of the year this Thursday.

Heard dominated last year with no personal fouls called. It was a BS personal foul anyways. If someone took a look at it I would be willing to bet money that McCoy has had more personal fouls called for him than any other QB in America. He is the most protected QB in America.
