Aggie Baseball Team Preseason #9

Collegiate Baseball has ranked our defending Big 12 Champions #9 in their Fab 40 preseason poll. The Aggies are the highest ranked Big 12 team, ahead of #10 texas, #14 Oklahoma State, #15 Baylor, and #22 Missouri. This is the Aggies' highest preseason ranking since the 1994 team opened the season at #7.

With all of the pitching we have returning, I am hopeful we can improve on last season, and actually make it to Omaha. We return 14 letterwinners, 4 of whom are starters from last year's team. We also have 9 pitchers returning.

Our road to Omaha looks like it may again go through Houston, as Rice comes in #3 in the poll. We will face them in non-conference play, as we do every year.

I think if we can avoid what seems to a be yearly 'slump' under Childress, we will be okay. If we can get our level of play to a consistently high level, and make sure we peak at the end of the season, we'll be okay. We seemed to play at a high level for a good chunk of Big 12 play last season until we were 1 game away from clinching the conference championship, and then we went into a slump and collapsed. If we can avoid the slump this season and keep it going, we'll do well.

great to be considered a top team

I would love to see us beat Rice during the season to build confidence after losing in the tournament to them the past two years.

I really like the squad Coach Childress and staff have put together, but this is the time to show it on the field.
