Not A Single A&M Player Is Worthy Of Being Listed Among The Big 12's Top 25
According to Tim Griffin, not a single A&M player rates as one of the Big 12's top 25 football players. Even if Griffin were drafting for a professional football league (he only specifies "a" football league, not college or pro), his picks would be questionable.
Michael Crabtree as the overall #1 pick? I think Crabtree is a freak of nature, but no more so than Jermaine Gresham. Even given the factor that both Crabtree and Gresham are physical specimens you find once a decade, if that often, I still wouldn't rate them ahead of Sam Bradford. The QB is the leader of the team, and Bradford was the best QB in the nation this year.
Graham Harrell ahead of Colt McCoy? Seriously? Despite Mike Leach's protests, you can put a 7-Eleven clerk at QB (Sonny Cumbie, anyone?) at Tech, and they will put up ridiculous stats. Harrell is just a good QB in the Tech offense; he isn't anywhere close to being the difference maker McCoy is for texas.
The biggest omissions I see on this list are Jeff Fuller and Cyrus Gray. Fuller set schools records while showing the potential to be a great college wide receiver, and Gray sets records for total offense while excelling as a kick returner and a running back. If Griffin can find room for Roy Helu Jr. at tailback, there is definitely room for Cyrus Gray. I want to see how well Helu performs behind an offensive line that is a sieve on every play.
Griffin ranks Phil Loadholt in his top 25, even while acknowledging his difficulty with speed rushers. Hmmmm, you know, as a Left Tackle, handling speed rushers is kind of your job. If you struggle against speed rushers, you aren't a good OT, period, certianly not one of the top 25 players in the conference.
While I'm sure Griffin tried to make this list to stir some controversy and spur discussion, his exclusion of players like Gray, Fuller, and even Jerrod Johnson make me question its legitimacy.
