BCS Bowl Game Projections

My projections are based in part on what I think is going to happen tomorrow in the conference championship games, and in part on match-ups I would enjoy seeing. I am well aware that BCS bowl games, with the exception of the national championship game, are all more about making money moreso than matching up the two best teams, but there are still some games I would like to see.

Orange Bowl Classic

ACC Champion Boston College vs. BCS at-large Utah

This wouldactually make for a dream match-up for the media, because the little Jesuit school that could in the large media market of Boston making it to the BCS would be a huge story. Matched up with the BCS-buster story of Utah, and you have material for columns for weeks preceding this game.  Of course, there is always a chance Virginia Tech may appear in this game, but I hope not. After their sorry showing against Kansas last January, I'm hoping the Hokies lose the ACC Championship Game, and I usually root for Frank Beamer's squad.

Sugar Bowl

BCS at-large Ohio State vs. BCS at-large Alabama

I'm picking Alabama as the SEC Championship Game loser, and I think the Sugar Bowl will be happy to host them as a consolation prize for missing out on the national championship game. Ohio State as their opponent is more of the match-up I think would be interesting to see as two traditional powers face each other, moreso than what might actually happen. This would be a decent game as two so-so offenses face off against good defenses.

Rose Bowl

Pac-10 Champion USC vs. Big Ten Champion Penn State

This one is pretty much already a given, assuming USC doesn't falter against UCLA. Normally, this would be a guaranteed blowout win for Southern Cal, but since USC is very average on offense this season, Penn State actualy has a shot in this game. Of course, we are talking about Big Ten speed here for Penn State on offense, so SC's defense should make this a game.

Fiesta Bowl

Big East Champion Cincinatti vs. BCS at-large texas

This looks like a guaranteed win for texas. Brian Kelly is a good coach, though, and the Bearcats do have enough of a passing game to challenge texas' weak secondary and give them a game.

BCS National Title Game - Orange Bowl

Big 12 Champion Oklahoma vs. SEC Champion Florida

This would feature Boy Genius 2000 vs Boy Genius 2006. More importantly, it would feature one of the best offensive minds in the game in Urban Meyer against one of the best defensive minds in the game in Bob Stoops. While Oklahoma's defense was completely shredded against Oklahoma State, I do think the month off would give Stoops plenty of time to devise a plan to slow Florida's offense. Percy Harvin should be heathly again by January, and seeing him and Tim Tebow go head-to-head with Sam Bradford, Jermaine Gresham and the rest of OU's offense would be fun. I'm especially interested in seeing Oklahoma's offense go against Florida's "ESS-EE-SEE we've got that incredible team speed that is unmatched anywhere else in the universe omg lolz!!1!juan" defense.

Big East Champion Cincinatti vs. BCS at-large texas

This would be interesting. The ou cinncy game was probably the game that put them ahead of Texas in the bcs. Blowing out the big east champ helped them immensely. If Texas were to struggle with cinncy, it could be said the bcs made the right decision to put ou in front of Texas. If Texas dominates, which I hope they do, it will only cause more controversy

About 5 people would watch Orange Bowl.

The Orange Bowl has already confirmed that Cincy is going to the Orange Bowl. Its already guaranteed. Its going to be ACC vs. Big East.

if Cincy is going to the Orange Bowl

then they should face Utah

I don’t know if it is guaranteed or not, but the BCS at-large bid that goes to the mid-major school always seems to be in the bowl game that later hosts the national championship, i.e. Hawai’i in the 2008 Sugar Bowl, Boise State in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl.

If they follow form, Utah will be in the Orange Bowl.

If they get the option, I think the Fiesta will take texas and Ohio State.

Yeah its special isn't it?

But anyways, me being a grad from The University of Texas and ALSO a grad from the Texas A&M Fire Academy, I try to show a little respect regardless of a rivalry. Respect…its a TEXAN thing, not an aggie or longhorn thing. Regardless of that, I would like to tell the Aggie drum major (don’t know if there is a special term for that) Happy Birthday, Mr. Stump.

BCS

This year the BCS Committee has really blown it more than they usually do. Putting Oklahoma ahead of Texas after Texas beat them is ridiculous and crazy!

Go to www.BSFlag.com/BCS – they have an email system set up to send a BSFlag right to the BCS mailbox! Check it out!

If enough people send flags to the BCS committee, maybe they will take notice, and maybe then, we the fans, can make a difference!
