Mike Sherman Postgame Quotes

I'll give my full thoughts on the game later today.

On Jerrod Johnson's performance: "He did some good things. He broke some tackles and created some plays with his feet. You know there were some things he did very well and other things we need to work on. We had two turnovers at that position which both he and I wish we had back. Protecting the football a little better which I've been on him about a couple of times. He did a good job but not good enough to win obviously. I thought he made some really great -- unbelievable plays particularly in the first half. He broke away from people made some really good plays for us and kept drives alive that maybe weren't going to stay alive. But there's a lot of little things as a quarterback in his first ball game that he needs to manage a little better and you know that just takes watching tape. He will learn from this tape and then we'll move forward."

I agree with Sherman here. Jerrod did some good things and made a few mistakes he needs to correct. He has a chance to be a very good QB for us.

On where the team is now: "Well, you know, as bad as some things may have appeared at different times there were some good things that happened. And I'm not using that as any moral victory because as I told the team, you lose the game, we cannot have moral victories. But some guys did do some pretty good things. And we can build off of that. We have to fix what needs to get fixed from a coaching standpoint. That's our jobs and they have to respond and trust that we're telling them the right things and do -- and them follow through on that. You know I think this is a key point in our season where even though only three games into this thing that they hang together; that they come back to work tomorrow prepared to fix what needs to get fixed be honest with ourselves, be accountable. All of us, coaches and players alike. We need to fix what needs to get fixed and move forward.

This is why I like Mike Sherman. He doesn't mince words, he tells it like it is. There are no moral victories. This is a refreshing change from the previous regime, where we'd be hearing excuses about why we didn't win.
