Congratulations to Trent Hunter
True freshman safety Trent Hunter was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week after his 17 tackles (11 solo) against Army.
The Army game was Hunter's first career start. Hunter started because of an injury to Jordan Peterson. One of the things I will commend Sherman for is his willingness to play freshmen. He is trying to get the most talented 22 players on the field, regardless of their experience level. We are going to take some lumps when playing all of this youth, though.
Along with Hunter, true freshmen Ricky Cavanaugh, Cyrus Gray, Tony Jerod-Eddie, and Jeff Fuller have all seen playing time this season.

hunter
looked good last week but i will hold my opinion until i see how he plays in the passing game where army’s triple options there are many oportunities for safetys to make tackles

disagree slightly
If your safety is making a lot of tackles in a game, your defense is playing poorly.
If your safety has an assignment as part of your scheme against a triple option team, you have a poor scheme.

agree slightly
i agree if your safty is making tackles they your defense is playing poorly against a normal offensive team. but if you watched the game the announcers even mentioned that it is obvious on throwing downs because army changed qbs.
i think against the triple opiton i like the way that he noticed the run and came up and made the play, and relized that it was not a pass.
but we will read (as the the game is not televised) hunters stats after this weekends game against ok state as they are putting up pts like crazy right now.
