I Like Mike Sherman's Moxie
I like the fact that Mike Sherman is saying Aggies should have high expectations for our football program, and is embracing those expectations. I agree with Sherman's assertion that low expectations have been embraced here for too long, and that needs to change.
I think Bill Byrne continually urging everyone to be 'patient' every single year of the Franchione Era and Fran's attitude that 'you just need to score one more point than the opponent to win" were the biggest culprits in creating and maintaining these low expectations.
I have become sick and tired of people claiming A&M can't expect to be good because "texas is a good team" or "Oklahoma is winning conference titles left and right". Those are simply excuses, and excuses are just rationalizations for failure. We should embrace high expectations, because if we don't set our sights high, we're never going to accomplish anything worth working for.
“(The team) has accepted a certain level that is unacceptable,” Sherman said. “We need to have high standards. People at Texas A&M expect us to win. They expect us to be a top-10 team. They expect us to be in a BCS game.”
I am happy Sherman's goals for the football program mirror mine, and even happier that he isn't afraid to go on record and put himself on the line by stating those goals. This is the type of coach we need leading our program, a coach who strives to be the best, and will accept nothing less.
Now, we just need to execute his vision and achieve his goals on the field. Easier said than done, I know, but I think we're going to get there.

I like it too
Its easy to talk a big game, but its harder to do it. We haven’t been a top 10 program in God knows how long. When was the last time we were ranked in the top 10?
SHOW ME YOUR LIGHTNING BOLT!!!!!!!!!!

I touched on this on another post below and I agree that there is a huge problem from the Athletic Director and his 6 straight years of “have patience” message. Bill Byrne has done some good things in some sports and some terrible things in others, and if Sherman isn’t winning 8 games every season, minimum, by the 2010 season, I think Byrne needs to go. The laxidasical attitude towards the football program comes straight from him, and that whole attitude needs to change. The fans, students, players, coaches and front office all need to expect and demand winning, bowl games, etc. That is something that has been absent since Franchione and Byrne came to town.
I've been calling for Byrne's head for a long time.
I just think he is an overall mediocre athletic director who is too money hungry.
This is his sixth year at A&M, and we only have one conference title in a major sport (’08 baseball) to show for it.
