Congratulations To The Florida Gators

Congratulations to Urban Meyer, Charlie Strong, Dan Mullen, Tim Tebow, Percy Harvin, and the other members of the 2008 Florida Gators football team and coaching staff on winning the 2009 BCS Championship Game, and the 2008 Division I-A national championship.

Florida's win over Oklahoma wasn't pretty, but it was a win, and that is all that matters in the national championship game. Credit goes to Urban Meyer for calling an outstanding game, especially in the second half. Florida's use of the option in the spread single-wing offensive attack ended up crushing the Sooners. Despite all the talk before the game about speed, the game really came down to power, the power running of Tebow in the fourth quarter and inability of Chris Brown to power the ball into the end zone on two consecutive tries in the first half. Florida tried to win the game using its speed, and when it found OU could match them stride-for-stride, it went to its power running game.

This was a hard fought matchup which really turned on two key turnovers for Oklahoma. Oklahoma dominated the first half, but couldn't turn two trips inside the red zone into points. A tip drill for an INT led to one turnover in the second half for Florida, and a lucky play on a ball while trying to break up a pass led to the other INT. Florida was able to take advantage of these breaks (and a blocked FG attempt) to swing the momentum their way and go on to win the national championship. For that, they are to be congratulated.

I really felt like the blocked field goal was the breaking point for OU. Bradford looked terrible in the second half.

USC is the best team

Personally, I think USC is the best team and if there were a playoff then I think they would win it. If OU’s defense was able to slow down Tebow and Co. then I think Rey Mauluga and Co. could shut them down. I though that OU lost the game more than Florida won. I wanted OU to win, but they choked in the red zone with bad play call and bad coaching decisions. If they get a TD from either of those two possessions in the red zone they win.

My vote for number one has to go to Utah if I had one. Even though I don’t think they could beat Florida or USC or even Texas (it would be close though) I still think they should be number one. All the defenders of the BCS say “win your games and you won’t have a gripe” well explain to me how a team that wins all of its games and beats bowl teams and goes out and schedules BCS schools doesn’t deserve a shot. The whole reason OU and Florida were chosen over ’SC and Texas was because they had the “best resumes.”

Utah would beat texas

Of that I have no doubt. texas needed to come back with 20 seconds left in the 4th quarter to win the game against a runner-up Big Ten team.

Against Utah’s passing game and balanced scheme, their defense would have been toast.

'Bama was bad

People gave Utah too much credit for beating a bad ’Bama team in my opinion. They had no quarterback who could win a game for you and the only legit offense ’Bama faced they got torched. ’Bama season was more of a product of a weak schedule and playing bad teams. They peaked against Georgia and that was it. Its so easy to shut down ’Bama. Load nine in the box and put the other two guys on Julio Jones.

Ohio State is better than people think. Their offense may be bad but they got a big time legit defense. They have three first round picks on that defense and they have always been good at defense.

Texas would win in a close one, because Colt McCoy is just too resilient and too tough to let his team lose. You may not like the guy, but I’m really impressed with him. The guy is a play maker and has shown all season that he can put a team on his back and lead them to victory.
