Dirty Dozen Rankings - Week 7
Our weekly ranking of all Big 12 teams. All Big 12 teams have begun conference play, so we're starting to see where we are as a conference. Teams are ranked on where I think they are right now in the season. Previous week's rankings are in parenthesis. As always, comments and constructive criticism are welcome.
- texas(1): Offense looked terrible in win over Colorado.
- Nebraska(3): Might be playing the best football in the conference right now.
- Oklahoma State(4): Solid win over A&M on the road.
- Missouri(3): They'd be the best team in the North if games ended after three quarters.
- Oklahoma(5): Offensive line is still a big issue, as they showed against Baylor.
- Texas Tech(8): Bombed Kansas State, dropping 66 on them at home.
- Kansas(6): All offense, no defense will get you dropped.
- Texas A&M(7): Plenty of talent at the skill positions, still too young on the offensive line.
- Baylor(9): Stayed competitive with OU for most of the game, which is all you can ask of them.
- Kansas State(10): Not much you can say after losing by 51 points.
- Iowa State(11): Have lost two close games in a row to Big 12 North opponents.
- Colorado(12): Another week, another loss, this time to texas.
Notes: texas looked like they were doing everything they possibly could to make their game against Colorado look interesting. 46 yards rushing on 25 attempts? I think most teams can get that running backwards. To be fair, texas had a two week break, and it has to be hard to prepare for an opponent when everyone and their mother is telling you they are lousy. Harder still when all of the gamefilm you watch tells you the same thing. Still, if you take away two special teams touchdowns and one defensive touchdown, you're looking at a 17-14 texas win. That can't be too comforting for texas fans...Nebraska's offense took three quarters to get going in the monsoon that his Columbia last Thursday, but that was okay, because their defense kept Missouri in check. Ndamukong Suh is going to single-handedly keep Nebraska in every single game because of the threat he poses up front for opposing offenses...Oklahoma State's offensive line can make any running back look good; that is a compliment to the work Joe Wickline has done. I expect State to be able to run the ball well on the majority of the teams they play, save maybe Oklahoma and texas, who have solid DLs...Missouri was doing fine until the 4th quarter began, and Ndamukong Suh took over...Oklahoma looks very discombobulated on offense right now, although Sam Bradford's return helps a lot. I don't expect them to score much, if at all, in a rivalry game this weekend with texas...Sheffield and the Tech offense will get a challenge this weekend, as they face Suh and the Nebraska defense. It will be interesting to see how they handle the pressure up front...Kansas' defensive stats have been dropping ever since they stopped non-conference play. Looks like the tasty cupcakes hid their true weakness...A&M will spend the rest of the season trying to de-emphasize their offensive line as they try to move the ball. Not sure how well that will work...Nick Florence had another solid outing in his second game as a starter against Oklahoma. He is at least keeping Baylor competitive, which is all that can be asked of him at this point...Positives for Kansas State after their 66-14 drubbing at the hands of Texas Tech? Well, their plane landed safely when they arrived home. They did score two TDs, so there is that. Gotta stress the little things and move on...Sometimes, it seems being a devout member of Opus Dei would be less painful than being an Iowa State fan...Colorado fans can rejoice in winning the first quarter against the alleged #2 team in the nation. That's something, right?
