Dirty Dozen Rankings - Week 9

Our weekly ranking of all Big 12 teams. We're three weeks into conference play, and the upsets are happening every week now. Teams are ranked on where I think they are right now in the season. Previous week's rankings are in parenthesis. As always, comments and constructive criticism are welcome.

  1. texas(1): Dominant in win over a wounded Missouri team.
  2. Oklahoma St.(2): Solid win over Baylor. Real test is tomorrow.
  3. Oklahoma (4): Kansas is still Kansas, and they are still Oklahoma.
  4. Kansas St. (7): Playing a good brand of football right now.
  5. Texas A&M (12): Fly up the rankings because of who everyone else has beaten.
  6. Texas Tech (3): You get blown out at home, you drop like a rock.
  7. Iowa State (9): Paul Rhoads is working miracles in Ames.
  8. Nebraska (6): 'Husker partisans are trying to remember what it feels like to score two TDs.
  9. Missouri (5): Looked they didn't even want to be on the same field as texas.
  10. Colorado (10): Only ranked this high because of their upset of Kansas.
  11. Kansas (8): Sinking faster than the Titanic.
  12. Baylor (11): Things are bad in Waco, and the schedule gets tougher from here on out.

Star-divide

Notes: The media wants to believe texas' blowout win over Missouri was a sign of texas' offense coming around. I think it was a sign of how little confidence Gary Pinkel has that he can beat texas; I think this lack of confidence rubs off on his team...Oklahoma State looked solid, if unspectacular in their win over Baylor. The game tomorrow with Baylor could decide their season....Oklahoma beat down Kansas, which was expected. They should get a good test from Kansas State, but I still expect them to win by at least 17...A solid win over Colorado gives K-State a leg up int he Big 12 North; I expect them to play Oklahoma tough for a half, but still lose...The Aggies gave a glimpse of what their offense is capable of when they have the running gamer clicking. Iowa State struggles against the pass, so I look for us to score often tomorrow...Texas Tech has questions at QB, but they'll feel a lot better after they beat Kansas tomorrow...Iowa State has a lot to be proud of this season; they are one game away from bowl eligibility. Hoepfully, after tomorrow, they'll still be one game away from eligibility...Nebraska might have the best defense in the Big 12; turnovers stymied their offense last week. Expect them to score often and get a much needed confidence in a win tomorrow at Baylor...Missouri simply didn't believe they could beat texas. The game against Colorado comes at a perfect time to rebuild their confidence, and for them to get a win...Colorado makes Nebraska's offense look like Oklahoma's 2008 offense. Hawkins' musical chairs at QB will be the reason he is fired after the season...Kansas has all offense, no defense. That won't be enough to beat Tech tomorrow...Things don't get easier for Baylor, as their fledgling offense will be crushed by Nebraska's defense tomorrow. It will be a moral victory if they can keep it close in the first quarter.
