Dirty Dozen Rankings - Week 10

Our weekly ranking of all Big 12 teams. We're four weeks into conference play, and I think it is safe to say that at this point in the season, you are what you are. Teams are ranked on where I think they are right now in the season. Previous week's rankings are in parenthesis. As always, comments and constructive criticism are welcome.

  1. texas(1): Blowout win over Oklahoma State was expected.
  2. Oklahoma(3): Solid win over a surging Kansas State team.
  3. Oklahoma State(2): Looked pathetic in loss to texas.
  4. Kansas State(4): Solid effort in loss in Norman.
  5. Texas A&M(5): Offense looked good, defense looked terrible in win over Iowa State.
  6. Texas Tech(6): Finally got back to playing good football in 4th quarter of win over Kansas.
  7. Iowa State(7): Their running game is why they are competitive; defense is why they lose.
  8. Nebraska(8): They were shutout in the second half against Baylor. Read that again.
  9. Missouri(9): Very, very nice win over Colorado. It was only Colorado, though.
  10. Colorado(10): Well, there was that terrific win over Kansas a few weeks ago.
  11. Kansas(11): When you can't stop Tech's running game, you have serious problems.
  12. Baylor(12): They are still fighting; they're not winning, but they're fighting.

Star-divide

Notes: Many people have made comparisons between the '09 texas team and the '05 national champion squad. I guess Oklahoma State '09 is Texas Tech '05 then. I still don't see a solid running game from texas...Olahoma's win over Kasas State was a solid win. This OU team isn't good enough to be a BCS team, but they're a good team who will win their postseason bowl game...I guess T. Boone Pickens can keep spending and spending and spending, but it still isn't enough to put OSU over the top...Bill Synder's rebuilding project in Manhattan is progressing faster than anyone would have thought...The victory over Iowa State showed that the Aggie defense still has a long way to go to get back to respectability...For three quarters, Tech looked like a team that would drop a game to a poor Kansas team. Fortunately, they figured out that Kansas can't stop the running game, ANY running game, even one as anemic as theirs, and took advantage of it...Iowa State is an extremely well-coach team, they just don't have the athletes yet on defense to compete with the elite of the Big 12. Under Rhoads, I expect that to change soon...Nebraska may need to do a complete overhaul of their offense, everything from staff to personnel in the offseason. Yes, the Huskers started some freshmen against Baylor, but the freshmen weren't starting on their offensive line...Missouri would be ranked higher if it wasn't for that loss to Nebraska. The win over Colorado may have saved their season; now they are a team that is getting better at the right time. Their game against Baylor should give them a second win in a row, and allow the to build some momentum going into a game against Kansas State on November 14 that will help decide who wins the Big 12 North...Colorado appears to just be playing out the season. I hope they continue just going through the motions on Saturday...Kansas' biggest problems are on the offensive line and everywhere on defense. They can't run the ball and they can't stop the run; that is the recipe for a losing football team...Briles has Baylor playing hard, but the results aren't always showing on the scoreboard.
