Ndamukong Suh Should Win The Heisman Trophy

I don't have a vote on the Heisman Trophy, which is probably a good thing, because there are too many years I would have browbeat and then ridiculed my fellow voters for such stellar choices as Eric Crouch and Gino Toretta for the Trophy. Not having a vote won't stop me from offering my opinion on who should win the Trophy for best player in college football this season, though.

After the 2009 season, Ndamukong Suh has proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is the best player in college football. After thirteen games, Suh leads his team with 82 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, 1 interception, 10 passes broken up, 24 quarterback hurries, 1 forced fumble, and 3 blocked kicks. Suh has accomplished this despite often being double and triple-teamed by opposing offensive lines. That is complete domination by any measure, and that is with opposing offensive lines and offensive coordinator scheming their gameplan around avoiding you on every play.

In the Big 12 Championship Game, facing texas' supposed Heisman candidate Colt McCoy, Suh had 12 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and 1 quarterback hurry. Suh pretty much destroyed McCoy's candidacy all by himself. McCoy's three interceptions in the game can be traced to intimidation and, in the case of his first quarter interception, prophetic visions of the beating that was to come.

Suh is without a doubt the best player in college football this season, and the most dominating defensive tackle to come out of college this millenium. If the Heisman is truly about recognizing the best player in college football, it would go to Suh. Since the Heisman is pretty much required to go to an offensive player, Mark Ingram, the running back from Alabama who helped lead his team to an upset win over Florida in the SEC Championship Game, will probably win the award.

True college football fans, however, know who the best player in the game is this season, and he wears #93 for Nebraska.

I especially liked watching Suh toss little Colt about 3 yards in the air like he was a ragdoll. McCoy looked around and didn’t know what to think of that.

Aren't ya'll glad?

That Colt went to The University instead of aggyland? The embarresment of him attending your school might have been too much to bear. Yep, you dodged a bullet alright – good luck in the non-entity bowl!

by littlelonghorngirl on Dec 6, 2009 8:22 PM CST reply actions

After Michael Bennett knocked him out of consecutive practices, McCoy woulda given up football and started a boyband with his childhood buddy Jordan. U should be glad he became a sip

by miketag on Dec 6, 2009 9:35 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Colt is a misfire !!

Suh owned McCoy. If McCoy is Heisman material Charlie Manson should be the American Ambassador to the Virgin Islands. Since the Heisman voters would never consider a defensive lineman then the trophy needs to go to Mark Ingram.

You sound reasonable... Time to up the medication.

by Sandhill Kid on Dec 6, 2009 8:37 PM CST reply actions

Charlie Manson should be the American Ambassador to the Virgin Islands

This makes no sense.

by mnHorn on Dec 7, 2009 12:57 AM CST up reply actions

Oh, I get it.

You misunderstand me. Charlie Manson for Ambassador is just an idiotic pairing of random items.

Here’s how Sandhill’s thought process played out, I’m guessing:
Charlie Manson = Bad Guy. Bad guys shouldn’t be Ambassadors. Ambassador to where? How about the Virgin Islands!!
But there’s no connection between Charlie Manson and the Virgin Islands. That’s why it makes no sense.

I’ll give you guys some help: Colt McCoy for Heisman makes about as much sense as an Aggie for a Nobel Prize. See what I did? I drew a parallel between McCoy’s inferior football ability compared with other Heisman candidates and Aggies’ inferior mental capacity compared with other Nobel candidates. It’s both funny and correct. No need to thanks me.

by mnHorn on Dec 7, 2009 12:48 PM CST up reply actions

No

He probably means that McCoy and Heisman are an idiotic pairing. Because it is.

by FuturePants on Dec 7, 2009 12:53 PM CST up reply actions

Except

An Aggie has a nobel prize and mccoy has no heisman.

by the12thman11 on Dec 7, 2009 2:30 PM CST up reply actions

When I was in school at A&M we had 3 Nobel Prize winners on the faculty. I think one passed away so we now only have 2.

by miketag on Dec 7, 2009 6:13 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Amen, brother Aggie. Suh has been incredible every time I’ve seen him, which is a lot more than could be said for Colt McCoy.

It’s a pity most Heisman voters who bothered to watch that game will be thinking “Who is that fat guy laying on top of one of my top three Heisman candidates?”

IT MAKES ABOUT AS MUCH SENSE AS MCCOY WINNING THE HEISMAN

by Annie22203 on Dec 7, 2009 7:16 AM CST reply actions

The point of this article

Is that Suh should win the Heisman, not that Daniel McCoy shouldn’t. Suh had the best year of any individual in cfb. The man was a beast. Ole Danny Boy managed to lead his team to a 13-0 record which is probably a more impressive feat than any individual accomplishment, but he hardly did it by himself. The Heisman is about an individual body of work over the course of a single season. It is not supposed to be about how one’s team winds up or what a player did over his career.

by ambivalent on Dec 7, 2009 7:34 AM CST reply actions

BG, I Hear You

I know that you and fellow Aggies can’t help but have your slant against much hated tu, and I forgive you for that.

I wish that loathesome greg davis (you see what I did there?) would’ve game planned better. What he perpetrated Saturday was absolutely inexcusable, and I am certain that anyone else with a modicum of football knowledge could’ve made adjustments and called it better.

That being said N’DonkeyKong is the best freaking college football player this year. Much like hated vince young trounced everyone and singlehandedly won football games, Suh trashed the tu offense by himself. Sure, he had help, but he made the magic happen. It was telling that a team with five first downs was a gnat’s ass hair away from winning a football game.

In fact, look that one up. Tell me the last time a team with that poor a yardage total or only five first downs won. That should tell you what impact that monster had on the game. I’m so glad that I never have to see him again in college ball.

Not Greg Davis’ fault. He has helped y’all win 13 games without a running game. He has done an amazing job all things considered

by miketag on Dec 7, 2009 6:15 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Suh is without a doubt the best college football player I saw this year.

Absolutely deserving of the Heisman, especially in a year when no offensive player ran away with it. Even as a Texas fan, I’m more than happy to admit that McCoy doesn’t deserve the award. Don’t even really care if he’s invited to NY. He just wasn’t as good this year as he was last year, period. Just hoping that we’re able to console ourselves with an MNC.

by ctex80 on Dec 7, 2009 3:06 PM CST reply actions

hehe

I am certain that you and every other Texas fan would give up any awarded and potential individual awards for a MNC. At the end of the day, an award really doesn’t do much for a school or their sports programs.

by ambivalent on Dec 7, 2009 3:14 PM CST up reply actions

Why are ya'll aggys hatin on Colt?

Just because he owned you this year shouldn’t be a big deal. Shoot, SEVERAL opposing QB’s owned you this year!
Suh is great – so is Tebow AND Ingram. Colt should be boiled in oil and dis-membered for being THE WINNINGEST QB IN THE HISTORY OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL.

by littlelonghorngirl on Dec 7, 2009 7:59 PM CST reply actions

for someone who claims to watch a lot of football

and wants to receive recognition for having a valid opinion about the game, you are completely incapable of recognizing what you are seeing on the field.

Colt McCoy played like absolute crap against Nebraska on Saturday; if you couldn’t see it on the field, 0 touchdowns, 3 interceptions and under 200 yards passing should tell you all you need to know. That isn’t “hating”, that is just THE FACTS.

by Beergut on Dec 7, 2009 10:21 PM CST up reply actions

and

“Aggies” is spelled with an ‘ie’, not a ‘y’, and ‘dismembered’ does not contain a hyphen.

Do they not teach spelling in Austin? Are you not required to be literate to be a business major at texas?

by Beergut on Dec 7, 2009 10:23 PM CST up reply actions

Dis-membered is an acceptable spelling

It’s rather antiquated but it’s still a word.

by ambivalent on Dec 8, 2009 5:55 PM CST up reply actions

Really?

I’m so glad have you to set me straight. I always thought aggy was spelled correctly
 - somewhat like you initialize University of Texas as tu. But, I admit, a business major from UT is called a lot of things by opposing schools – but mostly you aggy’s just call us Boss!

And as far as the performance of Colt – nope, it wasn’t his best game for sure – he had MUCH better one aginst the aggy’s. However, I do believe he threw the pass to Shipley that set up the winning fieldgoal.

And why don’t you hate on that second string QB for ou that shredded your pathetic defense? What is your personal vendetta against the winningest QB in the history of colege football?

by littlelonghorngirl on Dec 8, 2009 12:39 PM CST reply actions

Is it a "vendetta" against Colt to say he doesn't deserve the Heisman?

That is an awfully sensitive overreaction, don’t you think? Colt may be the winningest quarterback. But explain to me exactly how 2008, 2007, or 2006’s wins or statistics or performances should, or even can, play into the decision for who the most outstanding college player in 2009 is?

Please, explain it to me, because from where I sit, that is the most pathetic, excuse-driven, non reason for someone to win the Heisman, when they so very clearly do not deserve to even be in consideration. Daniel doesn’t have the performance this year to win, so to make up for the facts, UT fans just chime in with how he has won a lot of games.

Weak, littlelonghorngirl. Very weak.

by FuturePants on Dec 8, 2009 2:11 PM CST up reply actions

high school English classes

should have taught you that making a singular noun possessive does not make it plural

Hence, the plural of Aggie is Aggies, not Aggie’s.

But, I admit, a business major from texas is called a lot of things by opposing schools – but mostly you aggy’s(sic) just call us Boss!

In my 17 years of experience in the working world, I have never had a t-sip as a boss. Maybe this is just another myth perpetuated by the arrogance and ignorance of t-sips, kinda like Colt’s Heisman campaign or that Sergio Kindle is a difference maker at DE.

by Beergut on Dec 8, 2009 6:07 PM CST up reply actions

Pretty much every QB we faced owned our defense. Such is life when your the worst defense in college football. Guess we can’t knock him out of the game and send him off the field on a cart every time we face him.

I do enjoy these little dialogs.....

Particularly when aggy’s are reduced to reduced to “grading” the typos of a blog, Furthermore, I suspect if the aggy’s had played ANYONE close to the caliber of Kindle or McCoy, then maybe, just maybe THEY might have had a Heisman candidate and a defensive player of the year candidate themselves.

“Guess we can’t knock him out of the game and send him off the field on a cart every time we face him.”

What a classy statement – smirking over injuring an opposing player. Over at BON some jerk made the same type of crappy statement about the AGGIE bonfire tragedy. I found that as equally disgusting as the above remark!

by littlelonghorngirl on Dec 8, 2009 9:23 PM CST reply actions

Yeah, I wish we had a DE or LB who had 3 sacks this year. Oh yeah, we have a Hendricks finalist who led the nation in sacks. Our QB passed for more TDs and less picks than yours. I’m fine with our guys.

by miketag on Dec 8, 2009 10:38 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

we have players on our team of Kindle's caliber

we call them backups.

Sergio Kindle is a poor man’s Matt Featherston, who is a backup Jack LB for us.

And let me say this as well

While I believe the mighty Horns are superior to everything aggy (with the exception of the A&M band) and I also believe our basketball team will stomp the aggy’s into a mudhole – I always hope the aggy’s win every game with the exception of one. Afterall, like Texas, they are primarily Texas boys as well. Did I mention that I love the Aggie band?

seriously

do you not know how to make a singular noun plural

I just showed you how to do it in a previous comment, and yet you’re still making the same mistake.

This has nothing to do with ‘grading the typos of a blog’, it has to do with making you look less ignorant.

It also makes your comments more legible when you can write correctly.

Colt McCoy Heisman.............I think not

Ndamukong Suh single handily destroyed any hope or chance Colt had for the Heisman and I also truly believe that Brown and the Texas “O” line and staff were in such fear of Suh that they openly tried to take him out of the game right at the start with Hall attempting a Chop Block not once but twice which to me just proves how deserving Suh is of the Heisman all Texas did was fuel the beast and NU’s def showed they came to play and yes our “O” line was less than impressive but that just goes to show how well the UT defensive line is but on that note let me say we did not resort to trying to take out your linemen and try ending there careers like Hall did Suh! Face it Suh and the rest of the NU def line had their way with you they had Colt and the rest of the UT “O” line running scared all night long…………..bottom line is yes you beat Nebraska but we made you guys look like a bunch of noobs on the field and Suh……………….well lets just say I don’t think your precious Colt will be winning a Heisman anytime soon.

Last I checked, Colt and Kindle are playing in the national championship bowl game – what bowls are ya’ll playing in – the “whatever” bowls – good job!

Pardon Me

If my comments got your panties in a bunch their littlelonghorngirl that was not my intent. If you would scroll up my comment was not questiong whether or not UT beat us it was a comment stating that not only did Suh………and the other NU def line make the Texas offense look like noobs but we did not try to do anything outside the scope of the game to injur Colt or any other players on the Texas line like Hall did to Suh and as far as the 110 yrds of offense we had, how many yards did Texas get on offense oh yeah it was something like 202yds right and Colt McCoy, who’d never been sacked more than four times, was taken down nine times, 4 1/2 by Ndumakong Suh. The abuse dazed the winningest QB in college football history, prompting him into making a bunch of freshman mistakes— including the nearly costly flub of letting time run out. so just let me say I did not imply that NU beat Texas I only stated that we did nothing to try to injur your players unlike what your players did to Suh out of fear so please read it through next time before commenting thank you and by the way its better to be thought of as ignorant than to open one’s mouth a remove all doubt.

by ambivalent on Dec 11, 2009 9:41 AM CST up reply actions

What is a corn shucker doing on an aggy blog insulting a Longhorn?

See – aggys and Horns have been rivals for decades – you guys, not so much!
You are right – the Horns DID have twice the yardage of your team – you find that a moral victory? To each his own, I guess.
Interesting how selective you are in picking out what you can after your loss – the Horns were picking on poor little Suh? Trying to maim him? Did they?
Suh and the Nebraska defense played a magnificant game – all kudos to them. I only wish the best for him and your team in the bowl game against a non big twelve opponent. And, believe it or not, I wish the same for the aggys.

And, something else, I would NEVER want an opposing player from ANY team to be injured. Saying I would is crossing the line in these kinds of blogs! And I don’t believe any of the Longhorns were trying take out Suh either – and I don;t believe you really do either. That’s just not funny!

Finally, my panties are just fine – how are your BVD’s?

by littlelonghorngirl on Dec 11, 2009 9:41 PM CST reply actions

actually

IIRC, texas was called for a chop block early on against A&M, too.

Sounds like some of your OL are trying to make up for their ineffectiveness by resorting to questionable techniques.

To be fair, I didn’t see the chop block on Suh on the replay, and I know A&M was called for a chop block early in the season by Big 12 officials when it was two different OL trying to cut the same guy, so it is within the realm of possibility that this is just Big 12 officiating incompetence rearing its ugly head.
