The Sky Is Falling!

This interweb thing always amuses me. There are Aggies all over the world wringing their hands together (and experessing their frustration on bbs) because the sips have landed 8 early commits to the 2010 recruiting class. Everyone needs to take a deep breath. It is only February. There will be 350 kids who sign D1 LOIs next February. Losing out on eight recruits will not determine the success or failure of this program.

If tu had received a commit from a Russell Sheppard-type player, that would be one thing; however, that was not the case. Program-defining players are hard to come by, and tu has not signed one yet.  As it stands today, only two of the players who committed to tu held A&M offers (Hopkins and McCoy). I believe that Tevin Jackson and Ahmad Dixon would have earned offers in the future. So half of the players that tu received commits from actually were wanted by our staff.

We need to focus on our needs and let the sips worry about themselves. We need to find 4-5 OL in this class that Mike Sherman really likes. Our #1 target right now should be Jake Mathews. We need one or maybe two DTs. Ashton Dorsey should be our #2 target. Again, we need to add speed across the board. I am more than willing to wait until after our summer camps (or at least the spring track season) for our coaches to see which kids in the state have legit speed before handing out offers like candy. Have a little faith in our coaches. They evaluated talent at the NFL combine every year. Relax a little bit and try not to worry so much that tu received a commit from a kid that Bobby Burton likes more than Mike Sherman does.

um...make that 10..

You say that you need one or two DT’s, and you say that you may have only wanted half of our class, but fail to acknowledge that the top 2 DT’s in the state just committed to us.

The hate is amusing....

How many players did A&M get to commit for 2010 that texas has offers to? whats that? 0??? just please stop with the hate, its embarrassing……

Like vytil i die mentions, We got the top 2 dt’s in the state….already…you dont think they would have A&M offers?

We offered Cotton, did not offer Bible

There are always going to be some players who are going to be longtime fans of one school over another, so offering them can be an excercise in futility. This is the method texas practices, per Mack, so I don’t see why it is a problem.

I’m not exactly sure what we’re supposed to be jealous of or “hate”, b/c while it seems you have pulled in some nice prospects, you have also received commitments from people I wonder about, like Harris, who runs a 4.67.

Bottom line is, we’re going to get people who fit our program and will fill our needs, as will texas. I’m not sure why we’re supposed to hate anyone for this.

I'm not sure about it either....

Like you said, there are going to be players that are lifelong fans for different schools and there is nothing wrong with it.

I wasn’t the one showing jealously, Your boy Miketag was, so ask him.

Handing out offers like candy? Like the 80 offers Sherman sent out for the 2009 class?

There may be one coach that hands out offers like candy, but he doesn’t wear burnt orange.

well
Like the 80 offers Sherman sent out for the 2009 class?

I don’t follow recruiting, so I can’t dispute your numbers. I’m going to try to keep up with it more this year, b/c many of my friends follow it.

However, if you’re signing a class of 28, 80 offers doesn’t seem like that many. If you figure that one out of every 3 kid you like and offer will actually qualify and sign with you, that seems about in line with what you’d need to offer for that size of a class.

First off, those two are the top two DTs in this class according to rivals. No one knows how Sherman (or Mack Brown for that matter) has them ranked. Secondly, I said we may only take one DT in this class. I never said Mack Brown handed out offers like candy. You made an assumption based on your own insecurities. My remark about handing out offers was directed at the Ags who think we need to get on the ball and get some offers out there because we are being left behind. It is pretty well known that Mack Brown only invites the kids for official visits who have already committed in addition to a couple of select others. That way he can brag to the media that tu has this amazing rate of commits of 90+ percent for recruits that made official visits (I have no idea why they do this but they do).

I am not jealous. You guys got two commits that I wanted in Hopkins and Harris. If you want me to get jealous you need to land Jackson Jeffcoat, Lache Seastrunk, and the WR from Dunbar. Like I said, there are 350 D1 recruits in the state. 8-10 committing in Feburary is not going to worry me.
