UT signs a rapist

University of Tennessee signed Daniel Hood, who took part in tying his cousin up with duct tape, and raping her in 2003.

Hood was a minor at the time, and was able to be tried as a juevenile and go through rehabilitation services while going to Catholic High School in Tennessee. While everyone involved seems to think Hood has changed and deserves a second chance at UT, I disagree. I am fine with giving this kid a second chance, because I think he should have an opportunity for expiation, but not at the Division I-A level.

Hood was recruited by many schools, and he was upfront about what he did in his past with all of them. Phil Fulmer heard his story and dropped him right there. I agree with Fulmer's decision. This kid may deserve a second chance, but I do not think he deserves the right to earna free education at a school like UT. I don't think he deserves a chance to be a college football star in the SEC.

You have to have some standards, you have to have a line you won't cross, and this is mine.

I read this story the other day on ESPN, and I agree with you completely. There are many things that people should be given a second chance after doing to be able to prove they have changed. There are certain cases like this guy, however, that just exceed the boundary of being given a second chance. The line has to be drawn somewhere, like you said. I doubt that anyone who is supportive of this signing and claims he needs a “second chance” would be hesitant to allow him to babysit their underage daughter or date their daughter.

“wouldn’t” be hesitant

that is one of my tests, if you will

If you think this guy has changed, let him spend some time with your daughter/little sister/niece.

If you say ‘no’, then you really don’t believe he has changed.

I just think it is interesting that Fulmer said ‘no’ to him and Kiffin said ‘yes’.
