Josh Carter Doing Pre-Draft Workouts

Josh Carter worked out for the Portland Trailblazers recently. Here is what Chad Buchanan, their director of college scouting, had to say about him:

"Josh, a great catch and shoot guy, was really effective early in his career playing with Acie Law. He needs guys around him to get him shots because he’s not great with the ball, not super athletic. But you put him in the corner or put him in a stationary situation, he can really shoot the ball."

While I don't think Carter is the greatest creator with the ball, I do think he is more than just a one-dimensional shooter who can't create his own shot. I think it is a copout to say Carter was really effective because of Acie when his scoring averages and play improved after Acie left.

Carter is a good inside-outside player because of his size with an exceptional ability beyond the arc. When he is committed to driving inside, Carter's size gives him an advantage against smaller guards and some forwards. He is also a reliable free throw shooter, so when he drives and is fouled, he converts the play into points.

I really think that if there is a place for Daniel Gibson in the NBA, there is a place for Josh Carter. If he can find somone to work with him on his post game, he can be a steady contributor to someone for a long time.
