Oklahoma Baseball Series Key For Postseason Seeding
The Aggie baseball team faces Oklahoma in a three-game series this weekend that can decide our postseason seeding, both in the Big 12 Tournament and in the NCAA Tournament. The Aggies are currently 14-10 in conference, so a series sweep puts them at 17-10, #2 in conference, a 2-1 series win puts them at 16-11, which would tie them for second place with Missouri. In that scenario, Missouri would wn the tiebreaker, because they won the regular season series, two games to one. If the Aggies are swept in Oklahoma, we'll end the season ranked anywhere from fifth to seventh in conference. A sweep would also mean we would be risking losing our ability to host a regional.
I think we should be a shoe-in to host a regional, given our past history and tradition of great attendance and support of regional play in College Station, but other aren't so sure. Taking care of business this weekend would remove al doubt.
The Aggies play Oklahoma at 6:30 p.m. tonight, tomorrow, and 1 p.m. on Sunday. Oklahoma is currently ranked #13 in the nation, so it should be a good series between two top 20 teams.
