Favorite Football Teams To Watch (Besides A&M)
Are there other football teams you root for besides A&M? Do you have a second favorite team? Over the years, I've become more of a fan of certain coaches because of the offensive or defensive schemes they ran, and enjoyed watching their team just to see that scheme. I like watching Georgia Tech and Navy play, because Paul Johnson's flexbone offense is still run in both places. I'll watch Florida, Utah, and UNLV because they all run Urban Meyer's spread single-wing scheme, or a version close to it. Mississippi State, with former Florida offensive coordinator Dan Mullen as their new head coach, may add themselves to that list this season. I would watch West Virginia to see Rich Rodriguez's pure spread option scheme, which he has now taken to Michigan. I also enjoy watching Wake Forest play with Jim Grobe's version of the spread option, which incorporate the orbit into the offensive attack.
Since Rocky Long was one of the inventors of the 33 Stack, I always enjoyed watching New Mexico play on defense. West Virginia and Tulsa are the other two teams who run a 33 Stack as their base defense. Watching Tulsa also means we would get to see Gus Malzahn's offensive attack, as he ran a wide-open no-huddle spread that incorporated an option attack and elements of the single-wing. I will also watch Mississippi and Arkansas just to see the single-wing motion series, the Wild Hawg or Wild Rebel.
What other football programs do you watch and root for when you're not watching A&M?
