Lakers Nab Texas A&M's Elonu In 2nd Round

The reigning World Champion Los Angeles Lakers selected Texas A&M Center Chinemelu Elonu with their only pick in the draft.

Going into yesterday's draft, two teams who had shown the most interest in Elonu, the Lakers and the Houston Rockets. I am glad Elonu is going to get a chance to live out his dream of playing in the NBA. I hope he shows them enough to make their roster this next season.

Elonu, barring injury, projected as a 1st round pick after next season, but after already earning his degree, it is diificult to tell a kid to not pursue his dream.

Also, teams can pay 2nd round guys whatever they want, because there is no guarantee. So if Elonu impresses early,  he could potentially make more money than some first round picks, if he signs an incentive-laden contract. First round picks, while signing a guaranteed contract, are also capped on how much they can earn.

Gig 'em Big Chin!!

Here is what I think Elonu will look like in his new Laker uniform.

I was really confused

when he left early, but then I realized he already graduated. If you have already graduated and are playing college ball, you can concentrate on bball, but you have no job and no money. I don’t know his financial background but I would want to get out and get paid. Plus, he actually got drafted! He probably won’t see a whole lot of minutes but hopefully he can make an impact. We need more players doing well in the pros, it always helps with recruiting.

I really hope Davis can make it in the NBA. He is a fun player to watch.

It’s a shame Carter didn’t get drafted, he just doesn’t have a complete game.

considering some of the Spaniards who were drafted

I am surprised Carter wasn’t picked by someone. At least Carter plays defense; these Euro guys do nothing on that end of the court.

This was easily the worst draft I have ever watched; the constant trading indicated to me that many teams didn’t even want the players they drafted.

given the economic climate, several teams did not even want their late first round picks

this draft was purely draft and stash (in Europe).

Which makes sense for teams, but makes it really boring for the television viewer.
