Jerrod Johnson Tops At Manning Passing Academy Competition
After completing 60% of his passes and setting a school record by passing for 21 TDs in only 10 starts, we all knew Jerrod Johnson was an accurate quarterback. Just how skilled Johnson is as a passer may not have become clear until this past weekend. Johnson was in attendance at the Manning Passing Academy in Thibodaux, LA, where he was a camp counselor/coach.
Other college quarterbacks in attendance as counselors/coaches included Oklahoma's Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford, Alabama QB (and former Southlake Carroll standout) Greg McElroy, Oklahoma State's Zac Robinson, Jevan Snead of Ole Miss (and Stephenville HS), and Tyrod Taylor of Virginia Tech. Jerrod beat them all in the QB passing accuracy competition.
Immediately after the demonstration, the Manning brothers turned things over to the college quarterbacks, who competed in an accuracy contest. The quarterbacks had to hit moving targets at 20, 35 and 50 yards, and the most accurate participants advanced to the next round.
Texas A&M quarterback Jerrod Johnson won after hitting all three targets in the final round, beating out Bradford and Alabama’s Greg McElroy.
It is nice to see Jerrod step it up when he is facing the best in the nation in a skills competition. Hopefully, we'll having the blocking on the offensive line to allow Johnson to light up oppposing defenses this coming Fall.
