Best Quarterback Trio Ever?
In 2007, Florida's Tim Tebow was named first team All-American after rushing for over 20 TDs and passing for 20 TDs, and becoming the first sophomore to ever win the Heisman Trophy. In 2008, Oklahoma's Sam Bradford was named first team All-American after passing for over 50 TDs and becoming the second sophomore in a row to win the Heisman Trophy. texas' Colt McCoy was named second-team QB, and Tebow was relegated to the third team.
This preseason, the favorites for the Heisman are the same trio of quarterbacks named to the AP All-American team last Fall, but possibly in reverse order, with Tebow being the clear favorite, McCoy being a sentimental favorite, and Bradford being the underdog because of personnel losses suffered by the Sooner offensive line due to graduation.
What is more intriguing to me, though, is that I don't ever remember a time where three quarterbacks have captured the imagination of the college football fanbase so much as these three have. Maybe it is the singular nature of the quarterback position, but I think it is fairly rare to have three obvious difference makers at the QB position who are so prominent nationally, and two of them are in the same conference. The fact that both Bradford and Tebow have won a Heisman Trophy as underclassmen, and still returned to continue to play college football as upperclassmen makes them unique enough. Between these three quarterbacks, you have three national title games (Tebow 2006, 2008, Bradford 2008), two national championships (Tebow, '06, '08), and five BCS bowl appearances (Tebow '06, '08; Braford '07, '08; McCoy '08). We're not just talking about difference makers, we're talking about difference makers who are making plays at the highest levels of college football for the best programs.
So, has there ever been a better quarterback trio of stars than there is this entering this season? I can only think of standout duos. Anyone else remember Rodney Peete-Troy Aikman 1988? How about Chris Weinke - Michael Vick 2000?
I can't think of a better trio of quarterbacks; can you?

McCoy has a NC ring….. Bradford does not.
I’m too young to think up trio’s of anything to note…. but we’re in a special year, especially with the proliferation of the spread offense and considering the three respective schools were #1, #4, and #5 in scoring offense last year… this trio of QBs is surely putting up ridiculous numbers.

sorry, but that is weak
I don’t count a ring for a national championship while you were redshirting as significant
Bradford has started in a national championship game, McCoy has not
Bradford has started and won two conference championship games, McCoy has never played for the conference title
Bradford has a Heisman, McCoy does not
Tebow has won two national titles, and won the Heisman
McCoy is easily the third best QB of the three, especially when you look at accomplishments
lol, count whatever you want. that’s your prerogative. just adding a tidbit of info you failed to include.

I didn't fail to include anything
a ring he won for a game he did not participate in during a season which he did not play is not a pertinent piece of information to this post
McCoy has won 3 bowl games
and could become only the second QB ever to win 4 as a starter, Pat White being the first. Tebow is 1-1 as a starter, Bradford is 0-2.
I don't think Bradford or McCoy have had a season with 18 INTs, either
should we add that to the list?
Winning the Alamo Bowl over a 7-loss Iowa team is not an accomplishment to brag about.
edit
that should be Tebow in the above title
McCoy is the only QB of the three to throw for 18 INTs in one season
What about the Manning, Rivers, and Roethlisberger trio?
Or Leinart, VY, and Cutler?
And obviously the best ever, Elway, Kelly, and Marino.
I think strictly speaking about college football achievements....
This trio possibly could be the best yet… we will know one way or the other after this season.

Roethlisberger wasn't hyped that much entering his senior season
remember, he played in the MAC
Cutler was also not a hugely known quanitity, certainly not to the hype level of a Leinart. Young was dogged by questions about whether he could actually become a passing QB heading into his junior season.
Elway, Kelly, & Marino
Think you pegged this one 2 Cor. Those guys not only are proven pro’s, but each one had the hype in college as well. Elway put Stanford on the football map, Marino gave Pitt a huge boost, and Kelly helped start a Miami tradition at the QB position. Look at what each of them did for their NFL teams as well. The stats will never reflect it by comparison because the college game has entered a whole new dimension.
Jury’s still out on the current three as the “best three ever”. They’ve got one more year to play. If it then comes down to stats, they’re a lock. Take into account their contribution at the next level then Elway, Kelly, & Marino would have to hold the throne until further notice.
