Dirty Dozen Rankings - Week 4

Our weekly rankings of all Big 12 teams. The third game of the non-conference season (and one conference game) has been played, and we've had some blowout victories and some games closer than we thought they would be. The teams are ranked based on where I think  they are right now in the season. Previous weeks rankings are in parenthesis. As always, comments and criticism are welcome.

  1. texas(1): It was ugly, but a win over Tech is a win over Tech.
  2. Missouri(2): Blew out Furman, as expected.
  3. Oklahoma(5): I still question the offense, but blanking Tulsa's offense is impressive.
  4. Oklahoma State(3): This team still isn't in synch, especially on offense.
  5. Kansas(6): Blowout win over Duke continues soft non-conference schedule.
  6. Texas Tech(9): Valiant effort in a loss to texas.
  7. Nebraska(4): Offense disappeared against Virginia Tech.
  8. Texas A&M(8): After a bye week, they played like they were starting the season all over again.
  9. Baylor(7): Disappointing loss to Connecticut may cost them more than they know.
  10. Iowa State(10): Road win over Kent State breaks road losing streak.
  11. Kansas State(11): Road loss to UCLA was expected.
  12. Colorado(12): Hope they enjoyed the win over Wyoming, it may be one of very few this year.

Star-divide

texas' win over Texas Tech showed that Tech might be a little better than we thought, and texas isn't as good as we think they are. It might be a little bit of both, but we'll have to watch the season play out to be sure...Missouri has a little bit more of a challeng this week after walking over Furman last Saturday; they face Nevada in Reno tomorrow night....Oklahoma's offense hasn't shown me anything in blowing out Idaho State and Tulsa, but their defense certainly made a statement by holding Tulsa scoreless. If OU's front seven continues to terrorize opponents, they may be able to force a paradigm shift in the Big 12, and win games on defense alone....Oklahoma State appears to be a team that has listened to its preseason hype too much, and rested on its laurels from last season. They're like an engine that isn't firing on all cylinders, but you're not sure what is wrong...Kansas is still something of an enigma, because they haven't played anyone yet, so we don't know how good/bad they are. Duke appears to be reverting to past form after a nice season last year, so we still don't know what to expect from the Jayhawks...Texas Tech's biggest game of the season may be this weekend, as they try to upset Houston. If they can pull off a win in this game on the road, it will be a sign they're progressing much faster than we thought they would as a team. Tech fans are going to realize soon that Taylor Potts is already a better QB than Graham Harrell ever thought about being...People are harping on the defensive lapse that ultimately cost Nebraska the game against Virginia Tech, but what they really should be talking about is the complete disappearing act by the offense. You hold the opposing offense to 16 points, that should be enough to win. The Virginia Tech fans were the picture of misery in the stands as they watched their offense move nowhere all game against Nebraska's defense, yet the Nebraska offense kept the Hokies in the game...A&M played solidly after a slow start against Utah State. The weakness we expected on the offensive line coming into the season is still a glaring sore spot...Baylor may have lost more than just a game; with over 40,000 fans in attendance in Waco ready to root on their team, Baylor gave them nothing to cheer about as they were upset by a mediocre Connecticut team. Many of those fans may not return after watching such a disappointing performance...Iowa State's second win of the season matches their win total from last season already. With games against Kansas State and Colorado remaining on the schedule, they have a real opportunity to double their win total from last season. More importantly, the road win breaks a losing streak, and represents a step forward for Paul Rhoads and his program...I get the impression Kansas State should just say the hell with it, and run the option and  power football every play. With a quarterback who can't throw right now, it isn't like their offense can get any worse...I hope Colorado enjoyed their win over Wyoming this week. With a game at Morgantown waiting, and West Virginia upset about last season's loss, Colorado's win streak will end at one.

Its cute that you don’t capitalize the “T” in Texas. Btw, isn’t it supposed to be “tu”? Or has everyone realized how stupid that is
