Von Miller To Return For Senior Season

Mike Sherman and the Aggies received some great news today, when Junior Jack/LB Von Miller decided to forgo the NFL draft and return for his senior season. The first team All American put together the best season by an Aggie defender in quite some time in '09 with 17 sacks and 21.5 TFLs. Miller would have likely been a second round draft pick if he had entered the draft. His return gives the Aggies a defender that all OC's have to game plan for and the Ags an elite player on defense.

Star-divide

No matter who the Ags hire at DC, Miller will give the new coach someone to build the defense around. I seriously doubt that Miller will be able to match this seasons total of 17 sacks. I think he will see way too many double teams and be chipped on by backs. However, it will give him a chance to add the 10-15 pounds the scouts want to see in order to push him into the 1st round of the draft. I think we should expect a 10 sack/20 TFL senior season from Miller if he can remain healthy.

Miller is the type of star player who has fled Aggieland for the pros the past few year. From Robert Ferguson to Deandre Jordan, the Ags have not been able to hang onto their marquee talents once the pros came calling. Miller's return gives the Ags a player who will get their name mentioned on all the CFB previews in the preseason. It will give prognosticators a reason to believe that the resurrection of the program will continue.

This was another sign that Mike Sherman is building something good in Aggieland. I think it is also a sign of the trust the Sherman has from his players and their families. Miller and his family met with Sherman, and Sherman was able to convince them that it would behoove Miller in the long run to return for his senior season. This is one of the great advantages of having a HC with recent NFL experience. He is able to tell kids exactly where they stand when it comes to the pros. I do not think it is an exaggeration to say that Miller's return alone should mean at least one or two extra wins on 2010.

NFL Draft

I don’t think he would have gone in the second round. More like 3rd at best, probably lower. If he has a season similar to 2009, it will show that he’s consistent and deserving of pushing into the 2nd and maybe even 1st round in 2010. At any rate, A&M needs senior leadership on the D line, and this should help greatly whomever takes the DC role at A&M.

I think Von would have tore it up at the combine

and pushed himself into the first round

He has good measurables, and the NFL loves speed rushers who can get to the QB.

its just funny to me

that a guy can put up those numbers and not go in the first round. nfl scouts are idiots\

If he ran a 4.6 he would go in the first round

In what way was Ruffin McNeil ever good? Why would you go after a guy with defenses ranked in the 60s-80s when you could have a guy with defenses ranked in the top 10?

Do yall remember if he ever dropped back into coverage/

Obviously he can get after the QB. If he can drop back and cover a TE or RB on a route tha would bump up his draft value.

Excellent!!!!

We aren’t going to have anyone drafted though now are we? :(
I always hate that.

how can a school like A&M go entire drafts without players being taken?

Dennis Franchione, that’s how.

It's quite depressing actually

when you watch players from like…Sam Houston occasionally go in the 6th or 7th round, and we don’t have anyone. It’s pretty sad. I really don’t even think Miller will make a great pro player night now. Maybe after next year though.

He’s got the best chance I’d say. If he’s not drafted, he’ll be given a shot as a free agent, as long as he strong workouts.
