Still Waiting On DC Announcement

Deruyter is expected to be named the DC either today or tomorrow. We are still waiting on an announcement. I expect that once Deruyter is announced, we will name our new DT coach and other position coaches on the defense in short order. We need to get this done so we can shore up our recruiting class. It does not currently look like we are in danger of losing anyone (I think Fobbs is the only guy we have to worry about), but we need to give our defensive recruits some stability. Billy Liucci reported that there is a team meeting tonight before the new semester starts. I expect the defensive players will be told who their new DC is. Would not be surprised to see the info leak out from there.

Recruiting

From what I’ve read, LSU is heavily recruiting Fobbs as he’s a LA native. I believe they’re after Ivan Robinson as well, though I haven’t read anything about that lately. LSU and Bama are both recruiting Brandon Jackson at DT. Losing either DT recruit would be a blow at a need position. Corey Nelson is still taking visits. Those are the only recruits that I’m aware of who aren’t solid at the moment. I saw earlier today that Sherman is going to make numerous in-home visits over the next couple of weeks, trying to lock down this class.

Rivals announced that another DC name has entered the mix since Wilcox removed his name from the mix, but I do not recognize his face. Trying to find a link to his pic.

Brandon Jackson

He is the one i think is the biggest question mark right now. It’s to the point that some are saying its almost a done deal that he is flipping. I had a bama friend come up to me tonight and say that they stole one of our DT commits. He said its not a sure thing but from their side, it sounds promising.

That would be disappointing, but I can see how it would be hard to resist when the MNC comes calling. Hopefully A&M can get the DC and D-Line coach squared away shortly and shore up some of these softening commits on defense.

thats what i’m hoping is the source of all the waivering. Its hard to keep a commitment to a team when you don’t know the direction your side of the ball is going to go. I’m sure once the announcement finally comes, the new DC will call each one of the defense recruits and reassure them that this defense is going in the right direction and all of this will die down…heck maybe we’ll even see somebody like ahmad dixon change his commitment for like the 5th time and come to college station.

The other DC we were considering was the DC from BYU. My understanding is that Bama does not have any room. We are still going to have to keep our eyes on Jackson and Nelson, but Fobbs is the only one to seriously worry about.
