DeRuyter Will Be Named DC On Thursday Or Friday

Billy Liucci$ has confirmed that Tim DeRuyter will be named our defensive coordinator in a press conference on either Thursday or Friday. The BOR meets on Thursday and will approve DeRuyter's contract. Most of you know that DeRuyter was my first choice for the DC position so I am obviously ecstatic. DeRuyter will bring the 3-4 back to Aggieland. He molded a top 10 defense in Colorado Springs with Air Force talent; I cannot wait to see what he will be able to do with all the young defensive talent in Aggieland.

In my opinion, the 3-4 is a great fit for the talent currently on campus. Lucas Patterson should be a very effective NG, Eddie Brown also has the perfect build for the position. I think Spencer Nealy and Kirby Ennis will make great 3-4 DEs. Von Miller is a natural fit at OLB; that is essentially what the "Jack" position he played last season was. I think Kyle Mangan and Jonathan Stewart will be very good ILBs. Our secondary should be vastly improved with Terrence Frederick and Dustin Harris having an added year of experience. Coryell Judie should give us a quality 3rd CB. There is a lot to be excited about on the defensive side of the ball in Aggieland.

I’m glad this is finally going to be made official so we can start shoring up the recruiting class. I’m behind this hire 100% but i’m not overly estatic about it. He obviously has talent as a coach to field a good defense but yet his success is against less than stellar opponents. He will have better talent at a&m but he will also be facing better coaches. But i’m glad we didn’t go with another SEC style coach.

U cannot find a better offense to go up against besides UH. His defense for 6 turnovers that day.

I agree. But BYU had 498 yds of offense the game before. I’m not saying he’s a bad defensive coordinator. He is definetly a quality coach, i’m just saying i’m not going to get overly excited about it. I don’t think his defense was as good as the 6 forced turnovers against UH and not as bad as the the nearly 500yds against BYU.

The AFA defense was number one in the country against the pass before playing UH in the bowl game. I think that shows the BYU game was an aberration. He was able to mold a top 10 defense in an offensive conference with Air Force talent. Not only that, the year he arrived he improved the defense from worst in the conference to smack dab in the middle. This is the right guy for the job.

Hopefully he can recruit also

It’s only getting tougher for A&M to recruit defensive players from Texas (the state)

I’m sure the whole “we’re going to bring back the wrecking crew, and you’re the star!” pitch is starting to lose its luster.

I think we have done a heck of a job recruiting defensive players from the state of Texas the last couple of years. Do not see any reason why that will not continue.
