If texas Moved To The Big Ten, A&M Would Move, Too

texas moving to the Big Ten would destroy their program, and strengthen A&M. If texas moved to the Big Ten, I don't think A&M would follow them. There are no geographical ties for A&M to the Big Ten, and the appeal really isn't there for us. A&M's best options would be to stay in a revamped Big 12, or to talk to the SEC. I think A&M would be better off approaching the SEC about dropping Arkansas, and adding us. While Arkansas fans would think this an impossibility, reality is that Arkansas add little to nothing to the SEC as far as television revenues go, and isn't a particular recruiting hotbed of note. Adding A&M to the SEC would open up a whole new area of recruiting for every SEC school, and open up two top 10 television markets (Dallas and Houston) to the SEC.

With A&M moving into the SEC, I think the Southwest Classic game with Arkansas would be allowed to expire after ten years, or the opponent would be replaced with another SEC school, most likely LSU. Our annual Thanksgiving Day game with texas would continue, but as a non-conference game. texas' move to the Big 10 would wreck their football program. I just don't see Texas high school recruits wanting to go play against Michigan or Ohio kids in college, kids they have no ties to. One of the things that makes Texas high school recruits choose to go to A&M, texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor, etc, is the chance to play with or against the same kids they faced in high school. This type of regional rivalry would be non-existent when playing Big Ten teams. The only advantage I can see for texas going to the Big Ten is that they'd make more money in television revenue, but I believe the Big Ten shares their television revenue, so it isn't as capitalistic as the Big 12 revenue sharing model.

A&M in the SEC would allow the Aggies to share in what is currently the best television deal in all of sports. ESPN's ties to the SEC mean the conference is going to continue to be hyped as the top conference in football, even in years where they have a down season, like 2009. From a basketball standpoint, A&M would add another solid program to the SEC. The SEC currently has three teams ranked in the top 25 (Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Tennessee), and A&M would give them another team that is becoming a Dance regular. The SEC is also an excellent conference for college baseball, and while we underachieved there last seasn, A&M has a solid program and a nice tradition to add to the league.

If texas joined the Big Ten, it would ultimately end up huritng their athletic department, while benefitting A&M.

disagree

texas is not moving to the big 10 and if they do they A&M will follow. texas is not going to schedual non conference games agains OU and A&M every year, and academically speaking they (big 10) would choose A&M over OU

i dont agree with this quote i do not think kids go to texas to play against other kids from texas they go to win national championships and go to a storied program and play in big games.

in my opinion you give me a chance to play @ penn state, michigan, tOSU, wisconson, iowa everyother year i would take that and that atmosphere over the likes of Nebraska and tech (they would still be playing in college station and ou in dallas as they would not remove those games)

again i think this helps recruiting for texas as well overall would be good for texas do i think its going to happen no.

I just don't see any geographical ties to texas with the Big Ten

this is the most baffling part of this move

I can see why the Big Ten would want the in for Texas recruiting and access to Houston and Dallas television markets; I don’t see the appeal for texas to move to the Big Ten. An extra $10 million in television revenue isn’t a good enough reason, especially when that money would be eaten by travel costs for their women’s athletic department.

While the SEC would rather have A&M than Arkansas

I do not see them booting any of their current members. The problem with the Big XII is that the teams don’t trust each other. The SEC doesn’t have that problem, and I don’t see them trying to create such a problem. Plus, the SEC’s TV deal is done through the next 14 years. They won’t do anything until the deal is nearing an end.

I don’t think A&M would follow. I don’t think tu is moving to the Big 10. Maybe they would make a little more money up there but does it really matter with their current revenue stream? How many fans are going to travel to see tu play in any sport other than football? There is no geographical connection at all. Might as well have tu join the Big East. A&M isn’t going to do anything to piss off the big money donors, and they do not want to join the Big 10.

i think A&M is the key to texas going anywhere. i think it would be a package deal and A&M would say thanks but no thanks

Sucks that..

with Texas getting involved in conference realignment talks, they also have to worry about the Texas Legislature watching out for the little brother universities in Texas too. If only the govenor wasn’t an aggy…

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J.
