Aggies Defeat Nebraska, 70-64, Advance To Semifinals
Behind 23 points from Donald Sloan and 17 points from Khris Middleton, the Aggies held off Nebraska, 70-64. Nebraska was able to stay in the game by outrebounding the Aggies, something that can't happen if the Ags are to be successful in their next game, a semifinal matchup with the #1 team in the nation, the Kansas Jayhawks. Three Aggies scored in double-figures, with the Midget Assassin™ B.J. Holmes adding 11 points on 3-7 shooting from beyond the arc.
Nebraska shot 55% from the floor in the first half and 50% for the game, a percentage that has to drop dramatically if the Aggies are to beat Kansas. The Aggies shot 46% from the floor for the game, but were helped by hitting 9 three-pointers.
Moving forward, we really need David Loubeau to step up on offense if we're going to have a chance to beat Kansas. We'll need more from him than just 6 points and 3 rebounds in 28 minutes of playing time. I also think Ray Turner needs to see the floor more than 9 minutes, especially since we'll be facing the Morris twins and Cole Aldrich. We'll need Turner's presence in the middle to combat their depth in the post.
Our game against Kansas starts at 6 PM and will be shown KTXA in Dallas and KTBU in Houston. Until then, we can enjoy our win over Nebraska.
