Wednesday Thoughts - The Big Dance Edition
- If Kansas is indeed the overall #1 seed in the Tournament, why is Duke slated to play Arkansas-Pine Bluff, the winner of the play-in game with Winthrop? If the play-in game features the #64 and #65 teams playing each other, then the winner of that game, as the de facto lowest seed in the Tournament, should play the overall #1 seed, which is Kansas this year. The fact that Duke will play Arkansas-Pine Bluff just adds more evidence to back up the claims that the Selection Committee favors Duke.
- Let's see, we have the NIT, the College Basketball Invitational, and now the College Insider Tournament. It looks like basketball is trying to match college football by putting as many teams into the postseason as possible, whether they are truly deserving or not. A better solution would be to allow teams who don't make the Big Dance or NIT to keep practicing until the national championship game is over, and even allow the one scrimmage. Get the freshmen and younger players some more experience, and a jump-start on next season.
- While you don't want to read too much into one game, it was entertaining watching Texas Tech, they of the 4-12 record in the Big 12, run Seton Hall, they of the 9-9 Big East record, right off the court in their 87-69 victory. It is a testment to the strength of the Big 12, and it supports an assertion I made earlier this year, which is that they don't know how to play offense in the Big 12. When you have games that are 20-17 at halftime, your team needs to work on putting the ball through the basket.
- My only regret is that I'm not in Las Vegas right now. The first week of the NCAA Tournament is the best week to be in Las Vegas, period. With the sports books packed, fans of different college teams everywhere, and people hanging on every shot and every second of every game, it is just an atmosphere that is unmatched.

This post was funny back when your post only said “you can’t argue”, now it looks fairly stupid.

I knew what you were replying to, and laughed
I had posted prematurely. My original post was going to start out, “You can’t argue that Duke is not receiving preferential treatment when you look at who their first round oppponent is”, and go from there. I ended up editing it out and changing the structure of my argument.
Vegas
I will either be living in Vegas during the next March Madness (Vegas is on my short list of western cities to move to) or will be visiting during MM. The first week of MM and Halloween are absolutely the best times to be in Vegas.
