Bracket For The Big 12 Tournament Has Been Set
The bracket for the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City has been set, and it looks like we will face the winner of the Missouri-Nebraska game on Thursday. We are the #4 seed in the tournament, behind #1 Kansas, #2 Kansas State, and #3 Baylor. With an 11-5 record, we actually finished the season tied for second in conference, our highest finish since our second place finish in 2006-07. Because of tie-breakers (we lost head-to-head with Kansas State, and I believe Baylor has a better record against Big 12 South teams than we do), we fall to the fourth seed.
I am thrilled that we have our third first round bye in five years in Big 12 Tournament play, after never being seeded higher than seventh before that, although our current seed means we most likely will be playing Missouri in the quarterfinals in what amounts to a home game for them.
Nevertheless, I look forward to watching us play again on Thursday at approximately 2 PM. This team has surpassed any expectations I have had of them this season, especially after the season-ending injury to Derrick Roland. Watching how this team has played since then has been an absolute joy, and I'm just going to sit back and continue to enjoy the ride.
