Five Fearless Big 12 Predictions
- Terrence McCoy will earn at least second-team All-Big 12 honors when the season is over. McCoy has been stepping it up this offseason, his last one, and has breaten out Uzoma Nwachukwu for the starting job. He is poised to have a big year, and I think he is going to surprise some people.
- Oklahoma State's Kendall Hunter will surprise people by having more receiving yards than rushing yards in the 2010 season. After plodding through a disappointing 2009 season marred by injury, Hunter is healthy now and poised for a big year. He won't be just the power runner he was in 2008, though, as OSU switches to Dana Holgerson's Air Raid offense. Hunter will receive the ball more in the air catching passes than he will on handoffs.
- Christine Michael and Cyrus Gray will combine for over 2000 yards rushing between the two of them, and Michael will rush for over 1000 yards in 2010. Michael will become the first Aggie to break 1000 yards rushing since Courtney Lewis accomplished the feat in 2003.
- Despite going under center in an attempt to improve their running game, texas won't have a single back rush for over 1000 yards in 2010. This isn't an earth-shattering prediction, because texas didn't even have a back break 600 yards rushing last season, but their increased emphasis on the run won't yield anything close to the results they think it will.
- Baylor's Robert Griffin III will flirt with becoming the
firstsecond player to pass for 3000 yards and rush for 1000 yards in a season since Vince Young did it in 2005, but will fall just short of the mark. (Editor's note: wishiwasalonghorn reminded me that Dan LeFevour also accomplished this feat at Central Michigan in 2007.) I think Griffin has the ability to throw for 3000 yards, but I'm not sure if they'll risk letting him run as much as he'll need to in order to break 1000 yards rushing. Griffin will finish the season as the second-team All-Big 12 quarterback, behind first teamer Jerrod Johnson.

my prediction
texas has the best defense in the big 12
Wow
I didn’t know McCoy beat out EZ. I don’t really know what to think about that. The first thing that comes to mind is: we actually have competition at WR!?
Dan LeFevour
didn’t play for Miami of Ohio…

yes

the sad thing is, I was looking right at his draft profile when I wrote that
/facepalm
I think the "results they think it will" are different from what you think.
I’m quite sure that no UT RB will eclipse 1000 yards this season, but It wouldn’t surprise me if we have 2 over 700 yards. Until we find a premiere back, we’re not going to have over 1000 in a season, but with the new commitment to our scheme, we will have an increase in production at the RB position nonetheless. Not enough to win top RB in the Big 12, but enough to decrease the pressure on Gilbert to win it with his arm.
But then again, its only April, and thats why its a fearless prediction. Come October, we all may have a different viewpoint.
Stumpy: It's called the '80s. Ford was president, Nixon was in the White House, and FDR was running this country into the ground. I was bummin' in a hole-in-the-wall town in what is now called "Utah".
Honestly I have no idea
I think the most talented back we have is Fozzy Whittaker, but he seems to keep biting the injury bug, so his production will be limited for a while. I think Tre Newton has the best vision out of all of our backs and will flourish in a more downhill scheme. I also look for Jeremy Hills to jump out of the bottom of the depth chart and compete for the job in Fall practice. The man is talented and is basically a carbon copy of Tre. Traylon Shead is a kid I’ve liked for a while now and while I doubt he sees the field this year because Mack needs to redshirt him, however; if Fozzy goes down, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him get some action.
I guess in a nutshell, if you had a gun to my head, I’d say Hills and Newton.

I could see Newton doing it
he is your most complete back
Newton should make the smoothest transition to the emphasis on playing from under, simply b/c Newton played from both gun and under while at Southlake.
If Newton gets 200+ carries on the season, he’ll break 800.
Newton had 550 yards last year, if he nails down the starting spot, we go to the big12 champ, he’ll easily hit 700 and then some.
