Aggies Hire New WR Coach
Coach Mike Sherman confirmed earlier today that the rumors we had been hearing about WR Coach Steve Kragthorpe were true. Kragthorpe is stepping away from football for a while to take care of some personal issues with his family. I met Kragthorpe 12 years ago, and can assure you that he is a top notch coach and an even better person. I have no doubt he would have helped this offense and our WRs be the best they could be. You cannot diminish the loss of a coach of his caliber to the program. He has coached at the highest level in the NFL and has been a college head coach. My thoughts and prayers are with Coach Kragthorpe and his family during this difficult time. I hope he is able to get back into coaching soon.
Mike Sherman wasted no time in naming Kragthorpe's replacement. The Aggies new WR coach will be Troy Walters, who has spent the last two years as the OC at Indiana State. Most of you will remember Walters as the Stanford WR who won the Biletnikoff as a senior. Walters played HS ball at A&M Consolidated. We cannot replace Kragthorpe, but I am very excited about this new addition to the staff. Walters was an exceptional college WR and impressed me as a pro when he was with the Vikings. I am a fan of vibrant young coaches, especially the ones who won national awards as players. I am frankly shocked that we were able to move so quickly and replace Kragthorpe with a coach of this caliber. You would have to imagine that having Dat Nguyen and Troy Walters on this staff are going to pay huge dividends in recruiting.
