Fall Camp Practice Notes II

  • Tommy Dorman was recruited to A&M as a QB before moving to TE. He has now been moved to ILB, per Robert Cessna. I am hopeful this means we are happy with our depth at TE, and Kenny Brown and Hutson Prioleau are getting the job done there. Dorman has an interception in 7-on-7 drills yesterday, so hopefully he is catching on.
  • The coaches are working Eddie Brown out at strongside DE right now. I really hope this is only a short experiment, because I think Brown will help our defensive line a lot more at the NG position. Brown is certainly capable of playing the strongside DE for us, I just think he'd be more valuable at the NG position, plugging up the A-gaps. Ideally, we'd have Brown starting at NG, and Tony Jerod-Eddie at SDE, but having a rotation of TJE and Brown at SDE would make it virtually impossible for teams to run off-tackle on the strongside.
  • Lucas Patterson, Chris Caflisch, and Cody Williams will all receive their degrees later today, along with former players Arkeith Brown, Pierre Fleurinor, Howard Morrow, Matt Moss, and Antonio Perry. The ultimate purpose of attending A&M is to graduate with a degree, and I couldn't be prouder of these players for getting the job done.
  • So far, our only injuries are Ryan Swope taking a helmet to his quad on Wednesday, and Garrick Williams banging his shoulder the same day. Swope should be back at practice on Monday, and Williams was back at practice yesterday. OLB Sean Porter had surgery on a thumb ligament, and is attending his grandmother's funeral in Alabama. He'll practice with a cast on when he returns.
  • Sherman says the players who are third on the depth chart at ILB and OLB need to learn both positions, because need to be able to play inside and outside. Jonathan Stewart might see some time at ILB, but I hope he sticks out OLB.
  • The Ags will hold their first full pads practice today at 8:25 AM. Hopefully, we'll get some good work in and continue to stay healthy.

Re: Dorman

I really don’t know how to look at this. This is a kid who at one point in his HS career owned some QB records for 4A in Texas. I understand the ample depth we have at QB, but he’s gone through two position changes in less than two years now.

I truly hope this is the last time this happens for a very talented individual. Otherwise, A&M is wasting his eligibility, year in, year out.

Why move him to ILB?

He has no chance of starting with Mangam and our other LBs in place and we need help at TE. Poor Dorman.

seriously.

Find a spot to get him on the field. Not a big deal IMO.

It is a big deal.

If you keep moving him to a different position every season, you kill his eligibility and you’re left with nothing to show for a highly recruited player.

This is just another reason why I think Tannehill should just focus on ONE POSITION and let JJ and the other QB’s take care of their business.

Him

sitting the bench for his whole eligibility does the same thing.

Not a big deal at all

if Dorman were the best TE, he’d be playing there. If he were one of the best QB’s, he’d be there. The coaches do obviously think enough of his POTENTIAL to keep giving him tries – the performance simply isn’t matching up. Maybe the ILB will work out for him. Sherm has said he’s looking for a #4 at the position and so far nobody is claiming it.

thr coaches believe that

so maybe it is so. Maybe Showers requested to move from TE. I have heard very good things about Nehemiah Hicks at TE.
