Aggie Soccer Wins Physical Game With Virginia Tech, 5-3
The Lady Ags soccer team defeated Virginia Tech, 5-3, in a physical match that had a combined 21 fouls between the two teams. Virginia Tech drew first blood, taking a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute on a goal by Kelsey Billups. The Aggies quickly responded, with Rachel Lenz tying the score 1-1 off a header. Rachel Shipley then gave the Aggies a 2-1 lead with a penalty kick goal in the 33rd minute. Alyssa Mautz then expanded the Aggie lead to 3-1 with a goal in the 35th minute. Hokie Marika Gray then scored to bring Va Tech closer, 3-2, on a header in the 43rd minute off an assist by Billups. The score was 3-2 going into halftime.
Alyssa Mautz opened the second half scoring with her second goal of the game in the 48th minute, making it 4-2 off an assist by Whitney Hooper. Hokie Jennifer Harvey brought Tech within one again with a goal off a penalty kick in the 70th minute. Mautz completed her hat trick with her final goal in the 73rd minute, which would give us the final score of 5-3. Looking at the stats for the game, it looks like Viriginia Tech is like their football team, and plays a physical style of game. In the second half, the Aggies decided to bang with them, and were actually called for twice as many fouls, 6-3.
The Aggies next game is against Washington State at 1:30 PM on Suinday. The win tonight moves the #9 Aggies to 2-1 on the season.

we had 11 fouls in the game, they had 10
to p[ut that in football terms, that would be 165 yds in personal foul penalties on us, 150 yds in personal fouls on them
that is how you know it was a physical game
Well there is much more subjectivity in calling fouls in soccer, so it could have been a whistle happy ref.
