Picks Of The Week

I went 3 for 3 last week with SMU coming through late yesterday (+13.5 vs Texas Tech). Also had Utah State +34 vs. OU, and Clemson -23 vs. UNT.

This week I like:

Texas Tech -24 vs. New Mexico is a gimme IMO. UNM is the worst team in D1 football. Their coach will be fired after this year. Tech will improve a little from their first game, and UNM is simply that bad. I believe 54-10 Tech is a reasonable expectation.

FSU +9 vs OU is another line that shocks me. I think FSU is going to win this game. The OU secondary and OL are both very suspect. Jimbo Fisher will get his first signature win at FSU.

Star-divide

tu -29 vs. Wyoming. I know Mack Brown is almost 100 percent during his career at tu to cover after a loss. I am willing to bet he covers the 2nd week of the season almost as often. I am not convinced tu is a great team, but Wyoming will struggle to score in Austin.

If you are looking for action today, Boise State +1.5 vs. Virginia Tech is very tempting. Give the Boise State staff two weeks or more to prepare for a game, and they will win the game. They have had all offseason. I think Boise State beats VTech.

I disagree on OU

It’s games like this and Texas that Stoops goes ape sh*t on his troops. Home field helps, too. I’d be very wary about this game.

Stopps has not been able to motivate his team

to a win in a big game in years. FSU has better QB play. I think FSU is simply the better team.

given the tragedy that just hit the Wyoming program

you have to think they’ll be the sentimental favorite in this game

they’ll either play on emotion and play out of their minds and keep it close, or they’ll get down early, give up, and get blown out

given that Dave Christensen is their head coach, I think they’ll cover 29, but we’ll see

Personally, I never bet on a team’s game the week after a tragedy hits, I will often overestimate the emotional high. In some cases, it certainly can carry a team to victory (Bonfire game) but it’s just so hard to quantify.
