High School Basketball Team Forfeits Game Because Of Fast
I thought this was kind of cool. Mercer Island Northwest Yeshiva girl's basketball team forfeited their playoff consolation bracket game because it interfered with the Jewish "Fast of Esther", and Northwest Yeshiva is an Orthodox Jewish school. The Fast of Esther is a one day dusk-til-dawn fast to commemorate the three-day fast of Purim. Purim is the celebration of Esther's deliverance of the Jews in the Persian Empire from Haman's plot to have them all killed, as told in the Book of Esther in the Bible. This is a very important holiday to Jews, especially female Jews.
I'm disappointed the state athletic association couldn't reschedule the game, especially since the school was so pro-active in addressing the issue beforehand. In any case, it is nice to see some girls showing that sometimes, there are things more important than sports.

Highlight video of LaDarius Phillips, a 2-star RB recruit signed by Auburn. The kid may eventually move to DE or DT, but I hope they give him a legitimate shot at RB.
I enjoyed watching the various ways his high school team used him to run the ball (notice the power single wing package at at the 4:14 mark, and love the wishbone) almost as much as I enjoyed watching him.

Brig 'em Aggies
Careful what you ask for Aggies. You just might find yourselves knee deep in it. I wonder how many Fulmer Cup points this one is worth?
"Reports are just now surfacing that Texas A&M wide receiver Jeff Fuller was arrested over the winter break in Allen, Texas.
Police have not yet released the reason why Fuller was arrested. However, they have confirmed to News 3 that he was arrested on January 2. News 3 was also provided Fuller's mug shot by the Allen Police Department.
When contacted by News 3, A&M Associate Athletic Director Alan Cannon was not aware of Fuller's arrest.
Fuller is a sophomore at Texas A&M and is coming off an injury-shortened year in which he played in nine games with 568 yards receiving and seven touchdowns. He is from McKinney, Texas.
News 3 is continuing to follow this developing story and will have the latest on air and on line at KBTX.com."

UPDATE: Not another arrest. What are you guys feeding your boys down there?
"An officer report released to News 3 Friday afternoon shows Allen Police arrested Texas A&M wide receiver Jeff Fuller and Defensive Back Justin McQueen in North Texas on January 2nd.
Allen Police say they arrested McQueen for DWI and Fuller who was a passenger in the vehicle is charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor.
The arrest happened just after 3 a.m.
When contacted by News 3, Associate Athletic Director Allan Cannon was unaware of either arrest.
McQueen is a senior from Dayton. He recorded a career high eight tackles against Texas and had an interception against Iowa State.
Fuller is a sophomore at Texas A&M and is coming off an injury-shortened year in which he played in nine games with 568 yards receiving and seven touchdowns. He is from McKinney, Texas."

Fran to USC?!
I've never laughed SO hard when I saw this stupid NY times article.
It lists Fran as a possible candidate to replace Pete if/when he leaves.
"Dennis Franchione. He's looking for work, was a finalist for the Nevada Las Vegas job, and has major coaching experience at Texas Christian, Alabama and Texas A&M. Don't expect a letter of recommendation from Alabama."
HAHAHAHAHA. That would be the greatest hire ever. At least, for the whole world to laugh at. Good times.

Mark Ingram, Alabama's first Heisman Trophy winner, is hugged by John David Crow who won the award in 1957 as a running back at Texas A&M. Crow is the only player under coach Paul W. Bryant to have won the trophy.
The two met on Dec. 15 at a reception for open only to former Heisman Trophy winners prior to the banquet where Ingram was officially presented the trophy. Also pictured are former Heisman award winners, Steve Spurrier, Billy Cannon, Howard Cassady and Johnny Lattner.

Dat coaching for A&M?
This is pretty much dependent on the Cowboys firing their defensive coaching staff, and him wanting to return to the college game. But man, I could see him possibly being a great motivator, coach, and recruiter.

Espn's Tim Griffin has an interesting proposition
Espn's Tim Griffin has an interesting idea to accomodate the OU-Neb rivalry, so that it happens every year, by manufacturing an annual marquee one North vs South annual rivalry (ours would be K-State).
While the idea in and of itself is not a bad one, we could instead tell the Huskers and Sooners to get a room ;-).
If they want to play each other every year, then go ahead and play each other every year, except that every two years, the game wont be part of the conference schedule, but will be designated as an OOC game. Both teams can stay happy and we can all sing Kumbaya...

Darrell Scott Transferring
Our Big 12 neighbor blog Ralphie Report has the latest on the news. This is a big blow to an already teetering CU program under Dan Hawkins. I hope our players are not taking CU lightly because of all this turmoil, because our record playing there sucks.
