Good article on ESPN on how Gary Blair is lobbying the NCAA selection committee to send the Aggies somewhere else besides UConn's region, where they would have to face Geno Auriemma's undefeated juggernaut before the Final Four. The past two years, the Aggies have been put in the overall #1 seed's bracket (UConn in '09, Tennessee in '08), so Blair has a legitimate reason for lobbying. The article goes on to talk about the girls on our team, and how they came to A&M, so it makes for a good read.

Clayton Ehlert Dominates Penn State, Ags Win 7-0

Clayton Ehlert gave up just three hits, all in the first inning, as he pitched shutout ball against Penn State for seven innings. Ehlert had 10 strikeouts on the night, and retired 19 of the final 20 batters he faced.

Caleb Shofner led the Aggie hitting attack, going 2-3 with 3 RBIs. The Aggies scored all of their runs with 2 outs tonight.

The Aggies, now 11-2 on the season, begin a series with Washington State on Friday.

AP All-Big 12 Men's Basketball Team Is A Joke

Not a single Aggie made the Associated Press Big 12 all-conference team, which is really ludicrous when you look at it. Jacob Pullen made it at guard over Donald Sloan, which is really a joke when you consider that Sloan averaged more points per game than Pullen in conference play, and I think Sloan is the better defensive player.

I also question naming Cole Aldrich to the all-conference team in a year that was dominated by four-guard lineups in the Big 12. Aldrich wasn't in the top 20 in conference in scoring, and didn't average a double-double for the season; that is not an all-conference year. Of course, I also think Damion James faded and disappeared at times during the second half of the season, and thought he belonged on the second team.

Keith Perry, Ray Turner's guardian We need fans to have a sign during games to remind Turner to take it inside. He is already becoming a terrific player in the paint, but it never hurts to be reminded to take it inside and dominate.

High School Basketball Team Forfeits Game Because Of Fast

I thought this was kind of cool. Mercer Island Northwest Yeshiva girl's basketball team forfeited their playoff consolation bracket game because it interfered with the Jewish "Fast of Esther", and Northwest Yeshiva is an Orthodox Jewish school. The Fast of Esther is a one day dusk-til-dawn fast to commemorate the three-day fast of Purim. Purim is the celebration of Esther's deliverance of the Jews in the Persian Empire from Haman's plot to have them all killed, as told in the Book of Esther in the Bible. This is a very important holiday to Jews, especially female Jews.

I'm disappointed the state athletic association couldn't reschedule the game, especially since the school was so pro-active in addressing the issue beforehand. In any case, it is nice to see some girls showing that sometimes, there are things more important than sports.

ESPN's Mark Schlabach Says Offensive Line, Special Teams Areas To Watch This Spring

Along with Tim DeRuyter's implementation of his 3-4 defensive scheme, Schlabach lists offensive line and special teams as two areas to watch in his look at the Big 12 going into the Spring.

While I am not worried about the offensive line, I think mentioning special teams is kind of a red herring. You can't really tell anything about special teams unless you are in a live game situation like a scrimmage, and I expect us to use split squads when we hold the Maroon & White game on April 17. It would be nice if we can find a kicker who can put the ball in the end zone the majority of the time, and a punt unit that can effectively keep the opposing punt pressure unit off our punter, though.
